Straight pipes?

Pros = You will lose weight from throwing up from the constant annoying sound.

          It will drown out your farts, so your old lady won't know you ripped one

Cons = Lose power

          Lose MPG

          Throws codes

          Pissis of neighbors

          Against the law

I did that to my 4.3 s-10 and it changed the idle. I had to let it warm up for about 5-10 mins because it would surge if i drove it. Sounded sick but turned out it messed my timing which broke my oil sending unit sensor there after leaking lots of oil.....close to seizing but turned over when unit was replace and oil filled then about a week later clanky noise in engine few days later threw a rod. Any my truck ran flawless with the stock muffler but after it was cut it was all downhill i even added a new muffler when i felt the idle change which helped sum but things were already damaged. So i bought a Silverado and im keeping the engine stock so i have no worries of what could cause a problem and ill prolly just work on sound and appearance afterall it is a 4.3 5spd but good for 4wd

It did add alot of top end power to my 4.3 but i had other mods

Lose power!? WTF are you guys talking about? It's not a 4 barrel on a 350 we're talking about here. The ECM is capable of making minor adjustments due to the velocity change, and after about 200 or so miles you'll notice an increase.

However, such a setup as the original poster suggested is probably the most redneck-ass thing i've ever heard. That's actually a step below flowmasters for god's sake. Although it would probably sound better and have less drone. But that's like saying having your ears torn off by a shark is preferable to having them torn off by a bear.

If you must do the no muffler thing, do your ears and everyone else's a favor and at least get resonated tips. No less redneck but at least people won't throw things at you. I might.

Please get a real muffler, like a magnaflow or dynomax.

The lack of back presser will cause the loose of exhaust velocity, which will cause reversion. AKA you lose of power. :cheers:

I definately haven't lost MPG, Haven't thrown a code. But I did it just cause I wanted it to be louder. Its not that bad. I will something later. Thought about being cheap and getting a glasspack. But may go magnaflow after I get some money to get them.

  • 3 weeks later...

I cut mine off in front of the muffler and ran dual 2.5 inch pipe with dual 4" tips. Haven't noticed any power loss.....its seems to have more power up top if anything. It wont set a check engine light, and it sounds good. My gas mileage also has not changed.
