ZOOMER'S(out of the box) installed

Recommended Posts

Got to install the new exhaust tonight after dinner. My brother and I were able to take the old exhaust off the truck and put the new Zoomer's on in around 1 hour without any problem. The system is very nice with very nice appearing stainless(lots of bling on the muffler and tip) and seems very solid. I am planning on having it welded sometime this coming week just to prevent leaks and make me happier. Tools you should have on hand for this job are a 15mm socket for the collector flange, 9/16 socket for the exhaust brackets, IMPACT wrench and a can of WD-40 to make getting the old exhaust off easier. Also dropped the spare tire out of the way before beginning.

First a shot of the system...

Pulling the old system off, you will hold onto the 15mm nuts at the flange below and reuse them on the Zoomer's system...

Old system came out in one piece. Wrapped the end of the tailpipe in a towel just in case of hitting the sheetmetal(didn't need it, but you never know). When the back of the stock muffler is against the axle tube you lack just a inch from being able to drop the front. Helps to have someone there to help lift up and rotate the tailpipe down at the same time.

Rear of muffler, this bracket really needed impact to tighten. Tried to do without impact wrench(past experience of breaking this type of bracket) but impact really does the trick.

Tip...

From the rear, this picture is after installing the 2" drop shackles in the rear which we did after installing the exhaust.

From the front......can see a little condensation below which will be fixed with a small weld job.

Overall the exhaust was a very easy install and seems to be a very high quality piece. I'm a little bit type A(have gotten much better) and do plan on having the seams welded but that won't take long at all. The brackets seemed very strong and I hit them pretty hard with the impact wrench to make everything secure. They did NOT fail!!

THE SOUND.....very nice rumble on firing the motor up and it sounds very nice with a little throttle. The cabin is remarkably quiet with NO drone at all that I could hear. Standing outside the truck on accleration lets you know something is different but is not an obnoxious sound. I think this exhaust will be perfect for me as I did not want loud, just a nice sound and little burble on downshift, etc. I will get some more time to play with it tomorrow and get ya'll a sound clip as soon as I can. Please chime in with any questions. I will also get a fuel econ. over the next week or two with the new exhaust.

Nice job of documenting. Let us know how you feel after a week, 3 months, 6 months, after the shine wears off and you have some have seat time with the new system.

Even more impressed today with the sound and the lack of resonance inside. Very throaty when she fires up. Nice sound with the windows down but not obtrusive.

I will try to figure out the best way to get a sound clip. My digital camera does not really do very well. I'm gonna try the computer with a microphone of get out my videocamera sometime this week. If anyone has questions about the install, don't hesitate to ask.

I had a friend install 1 glass pack on a 64 283 and it sounded really bad, like a big vw. I have always been scared to do this to my truck because of that. Dual packs sound great. do you like the new sound? Looking forward to that sound clip.

Do both banks feed into a much larger pipe than standard?

Looking forward to your answers, I'd like mine a bit louder too but don't want my teeth rattled.

Here is the clip from my digital camera while parked in the shop. The sound gets distorted a little by the camera. I will try to do a little better later in the week after the Steelers win the superbowl.

I tried to move the camera around to get the microphone set up better but it didn't work.

ken1mod.....Don't worry about this exhaust rattling your teeth. There is a good balance of the sound IMHO. It is loud enough I'm having a hard time keeping my right foot out of it when taking off from lights, etc. but I don't hear really anything different when driving at speed. I was worried about it being too loud for me as well but Ron said no resonance and I believed him. Glad I did, he speaks the truth. Even while keeping my foot in the gas a little harder since last night it seems to be getting about 1mpg better. That is a little around town and two 45 mile round trip drives on two lane roads. Will give a better fuel mileage report as I get some more miles on it.

d**n. that sounds badass. How much are they charging for just those mufflers!?

2020is's system is a complete Cat-Back exhaust system. It uses 3" mandrel pipe a 304 stainless exhaust chamber and tip and is backed with a lifetime warranty and a money back performance guarantee....It retails for $899.00 but we will run a group buy if we get ten members together and pass on a discount of $200.00.... $699.00 group buy price for the complete Zoomers system.

Exhaust chamber sold seperatly is $449.00

Tip sold separatly is $130.00

I will work on some sound clips in the next few days for everyone to hear. I have to figure out the best way to get ya'll a true sound from inside the truck Maybe my laptop with a microphone? or a digital camcorder. I got a soundclip with the regular camera at lunch today. Maybe I will try that again in a less public place than I was at lunch :dupe: I'll keep you posted. I am really pleased with the exhaust so far.

Ron, do you guys put a bead all the way around the seams on your shop installs? I had a friend tell me that flowmaster told him that his muffler should leak the condensation out just in front of the muffler and he just had a local shop leave a small opening there at the bottom????

That makes more sense to me. It is very solid as it is but I will probably get it welded within the next few weeks. I like the sound more each day. Can't get the gas mileage to stay up around town yet since my right foot has gotten heavier over the past 3-4 days :dupe:
