ABQFirefighter
Nate, First of all, you CAN NOT run the Whipple without the Whipple electronics or a programmed PCM!!! This could have devestating consequences. When I installed mine, I have not used any of the Whipple electronics at all. I have a PCM from Wester's (only one I recommend for the Whipple tune). When I first installed it I was only getting 3 psi as well. I talked to Jeff (tech guy at Whipple, make sure you ask for him), and he said that there is a bypass valve that stays open when the Whipple electronics are not used. If you look at your charger, on the right lower part of the unit, you see a couple of valves with vacuum hose. I had to cut some hose and install some plugs to bypass this electronically controlled bypass valve. I will e-mail you a picture of this. Let me know if you need anything else. linda
Can you also Email me a copy of that too? I guess since i will not be running the whipple electronics either, i will need to make these changes too? I thought the bypass was vacuum/boost controlled and not electronic? Does this mean that it will always be in boost mode? Never naturally aspirated like the bypass will let it do at cruise or idle?
ABQFirefighter
It electronically controlled by the Whipple computer. If the sensor on the Whipple computer starts to read a lean condition, it will open the bypass and dump the boost. It works fine without the electronics, it just doesn't do the failsafe boost dump. You won't need this feature with the aftermarket PCM and injectors.
