04 1500 Crew "Leveling Kit"

Recommended Posts

It's probably just torsion bar keys... A.K.A. Ford keys which are cheaper than a leveling kit. The longer shock is required to keep the shock from over extending/bottoming out.

Thanks for responding Silverblazer, I should have linked the kit here it goes Thanks again any further input would really help http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/products/pr...pension&man=DAY

Definately will need an alignment afterwards, looks like the kit is lengthening your spring to push the lower control arm further from the rest of the truck generating the lift, I would worry about the spring coming out at full droop since it is no longer seated as deep in its pocket, (keeping in mind tension has not changed). I would try to strap it to the lower control arm in some manner to prevent this, who knows the kit may even have a similar mechanism. The shock issue remains, as well as checking to make sure your brake lines will be long enough.

For installation the easiest way would be to place a jack under the lower control arm near where it mounts to the frame, to support it when you remove the two bolts securing it there. as you relieve pressure on the jack the control arm will lower from the vehicle while at the same time relieving spring tension. Still be carefull if it flies out of its holster bad things happen. I haven't done this to a fullsize but on s-10 versions, they should not be too different. once you add the spacer, which I would hope goes above the spring, jack the lower control arm back into position, which will probably be more difficult now. and bolt back up. At least that's the short of it many smaller things would also be required, removing shocks securing on jackstands...

Either way good luck.

Hey Thanks Silerblazer, I did not really give the brake lines much thought. When I spoke to the Daystar tech he said it was a simple install. I am not to good with suspension work , but I do know my way around an engine. I think I will farm this one out. Thanks again.

You convinced me I will attempt this on my own. Um will I need longer brake lines ? Was your friends truck a crew cab ? Do you really need an alignment after this install ?

  • 2 weeks later...

hey, have you had any problems with uneven tire wear? i was going to buy them for my 2wd silvy but the guy at 4 wheel parts told me that they cause you to have uneven tire wear and he said that it is virtually impossible to get it aligned straight after you install them. he kinda pist on my parade you could say, but i am still considering them tho. i also heard they cause a bouncy ride.
