4x4 problem

Recommended Posts

Is it kind of like a bogging down feeling when you have it in 4 high. I also have that noise/feeling occasionally. I had my truck in the shop all last week and they took the front diff all apart and found nothing wrong. Do you ever hear a popping noise in the front end?

It happens with all IFS trucks in 4 wheel drive. Since you in 4wd, your front cv shafts have to rotate. They rotate very easy when going straight, but as you turn, the end of the cv shaft does also, making it a complex joint. This puts drags on the front wheels. Just turn your front wheels all the way to one side and get under and check out your cv's.

As Wingnut said, it's not a good idea to use 4wd and turn much on dry pavement. The wheels try to turn at the same rate as each other, but when your turning, the poping is probably because one wheel is actually turning less than the other.
