Newbie needing some info

I'm wanting to put a limited-slip diff in my rear, and 4:10 gears, what all do I need to buy,and where can I buy the stuff from? I know this question might be stupid but I'm just now getting into mechanical stuff and trying to learn lol.

If your truck is 4 wheel drive, you'll have to do the front and rear gears so that they match. For the limited slip, it all depends what rear axle you have. If you have a newer HD, there isn't much selection for lockers, just the factory G80. If you have a 1500, there should be more choices since I think they have 10 bolt rears, but I'm not too sure about that. The hard part is the installation. There's alot of settings that have to be changed and it takes someone who knows their stuff to get it right. Best thing to do is to go to a tranny/drivetrain shop and see what they say. Find out what you need parts wise and see if you can get the stuff cheaper from somewhere like Randy's Ring and Pinion. Then find out what just installation would cost. I know for me, front and rear gears with master install kits and labor will probably be close to $1500.

Aight thnx, My trucks just 2wd so ill only have to do the rear, its a 1994 gmc sierra, I think I have a 8.5" 10bolt rear? not sure though.

Yup, that should be it. It might be an 8.6, but prices should be similar.

 

Looks like $435 for the gears and install kit.
