Insulated my Garage Door

Well hopefully this will keep the garage warmer slightly. I dont know why they (contractors) use a plain steel uninsulated door. (actually i know why but insulated isnt that much more expensive). Had to buy 3 kits (16x7 and an 8x7 door) total was like $125. Took about 5 hrs to install and clean up (mess from the little white foam after cutting them to size).

They sell kits for that?

:chill:

I used a bunch of 4 x 8 sheets of the insulation they covered my house with before the brick went up, and secured it with that expanding foam that Home Depot has sitting on every aisle.

Yours looks better. :D Good job man. :nopity:

No its not heated. I must say it has warmed up out there though. I was told tonight by my gf that she said she will sleep out there since it is warmer than in our house.

This morning it was 65 (truck thermometer) in the garage and when i got to the street it dropped to 57. Normall the garage is about 2 degrees warmer.

Not bad i must say just so i dont freeze when I run out for a tool.

Looks good Ryan. You will really notice the benefits of the garage door insulation once it starts getting real cold.

My insulated front-attached 3-car garage is a lot like yours…it stays nice and warm. My detached 4 car non-heated insulated garage stays almost surprisingly just as warm. Last winter the lowest temp on the ole Coka-Cola thermostat was around 40 degrees….while the attached garage tanked at 48 degrees. Contrary to popular belief, the winters in

CO are not that frigid…. especially in the southern section of the state. When I lived in MI my beers would freeze solid in the garage. I hated living in the Midwest…Northeast, or whatever you want to call the Detroit area. Either way, it sucked.

I strategically placed our propane tank beside the detached garage at the new casa when we build the house for the ease of a future ceiling mounted heater in my detached garage. Hopefully, I can budget that heater in yet this year. I have a long-term 1989 6.5L diesel Suburban engine swap project in the garage right now that I might need heat to motivate me to complete.

Hey, my garage/house resemble that remark. Thankfully the builder let us come in and put insulation in the garage walls during construction. That, plus insulation up top have made all the difference in the world.

I have just got through having a detatched garage built (for the HD and Trans Am :chevy: ). I am now working on getting the wiring done and will follow up with insulation. Any recommendations from personal experiences in insulating / wiring shops? Also, where did you get the door insulation?
