Are parts from GMPartsdirect.com genuine?

alvocado

Question

I'm getting ready to change the front brake pads on my 2002 Yukon Denali and after getting a quote for $152.42 for a set from the dealer, I searched the Internet for some other options. I've had great luck with the OE pads so I want to stay with them vs. aftermarket. I found part #18045936 on www.gmpartsdirect.com for $67.50 (82.35 including shipping). That's a huge savings. Does anyone have experience buying from them?

I've never believed the parts you buy right from GM are any better then you can find at your auto parts store shelves.

Depends. Some aftermarket parts may be as good, but by the same token, some of the stuff you get from auto parts stores is pure junk.

Yes, both they and www.partszoneonline.com sell genuine GM parts at greatly reduced prices. Watch the shipping price though, on some parts it will more than offset the savings of buying the part from them. For the brake pads, that doesn't appear to be the case.

GM pads are aftermarket, they are made by Rayebestos :nopity:

Many, many parts are from outside suppliers, but made to GM specs of course. You don't think GM actually manufacturers all the parts used to build a vehicle. So if you want to look at it that way, a lot of your vehicle is "aftermarket."

Correct.

Working in dealerships for a few years, I've never believed the parts you buy right from GM are any better then you can find at your auto parts store shelves. They just usually cost more because they are packaged in GM packaging.
