Are there any Duramax/Allison issues.....

Recommended Posts

That pretty much says it. I am kicking around getting rid of my truck and the suburban and going back to just 2 vehicles instead of 3. The Suburban sitting in the garage all the time kills me and I do need a truck. I figure we she will drive the Impala until it dies (hopefully soon! :wtf: ).

At any rate, the replacement for the two will be a crew cab, 8 foot bed, leather, 4x4 and a diesel. To be honest, I have been looking at the Ford Super Duty pretty hard, but the continued problems with the 6.0 powerstroke almost has me scared off. I am not fond of the '03-'04 front end of the Chevy, but the front on the GMC is growing on me. I love my Chevrolets now, and I do like the look of the Super Duties, but as I said the "problem-stroke" has me very concerned.

What kind of power will the duramax make? What kind of milage? Any problems or issues? What kind of "power enhancers" work well?

In all honesty, this will be a family truck and my daily driver to work on the farm. At times, it will tow loads that will aproach what it was built to do, but for the most part, it will be my interstate cruiser and hot rod to drive daily. I don't have anything against the 8.1, but power improvements available and milage as well as longevity push me to the diesel.

All opinions and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :shakehead:

I'm on my 3rd Duramax/Allison. Man, what an engine and transmission combo. Power is GREAT and with even more power and a six speed Allison coming after September. WOW! Fuel economy, I get mostly 18 and as high as 21. That's not really hauling anything though. I've had no problems with the Duramax and that Transmission sure is great.
