Why dont ANY trucks have them anymore?

Recommended Posts

I never could figure out what they were good for????

In the days before AC you could flip them around and shoot the air right in your face. Opened just a little and they would suck out smoke. They were also the cheapest thing to break if you locked your keys in the truck.

With new trucks having built in ventalation and AC they are not needed.

You are right they were a sorce of wind noise. Now we get the wind noise from the built in vents behind the cab.

cost issues / styling issues / break-in issues....

they are still nice though when i have to drive some old work vans without a/c in them..... yeah, nothing like sitting in traffic in a dark blue work van with no a/c and vinyl seat.

Because you can break into them with a butter knife and a coat hanger lol. we locked our keys in our ford and had to break into it and some one told use how to do it and it took 30 seconds to open it

Ironically....a popular mod for the 67-72's is replacing the quarter window with a one piece design....personally I like the quarter window...it keeps the interior cool and I don't have to put an AC compressor on my 502.

I really liked that wing window in my '71 & '82. But never used it in my '87 and now my '72...because I have a rear slider.

The wing is nice because you can get air blowing right on you. But the rear slider works just about as well in getting air to flow through the cab.

Can't tell you why they did away with them. Probably a cost cutting measure of some kind.
