Do you have an OEM Steering Stabilizer?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Once in a while I'll read a post that says the new body style 2500HD and 3500 may have a factory installed "steering stabilizer" (aka "steering damper"). I need your help to verify this.

Before posting, I tried (for longer than sheer embarrassment will allow me to admit) to do a search on the forums for "steering stabilizer" and "steering damper" and those same keywords without quotes, with plus signs, and without any boolean operatives at all, and all I get back is "Sorry, an error must have occurred... you must use a keyword or there are too many results." Obviously, I typed in a keyword before pressing search, and obviously, there are not THAT many results that would come up in only the 2500HD/3500 forum with both terms combined together in quotes. I did search all forums as well. I give up on search. All I want to know about is steering stabilizers.

Anyway, it is hard to just go to a dealer's new truck lot and look under the trucks there, because even if a given truck had any kind of horizontally mounted shock absorber connected to the steering linkage, it would not be easily visible in the factory mounted location, as the connection points on the linkage are hidden behind a plastic baffle.

So, if you do have an OEM steering stabilizer on your 2001 or newer truck, would you mind posting the year, model, and drivetrain (engine, trans, 4x2 or 4x4) of your truck? If you can see the part number on your stabilizer, would you post that as well?

Otherwise, I'm wondering if these stabilizers ever existed at all?

Yes it is just behind the plastic front cover and actually is fairly visible if viewed from an angle. It is in front of the front axle, more on the Passenger side of the truck. BTW '03 2500HD

I also have one. Just ordered a Rancho replacement. It's a new part and a direct bolt-in for the OEM one. Part number is RS5411.

ABQ Firefighter,

Who did you order your Rancho RS5411 from? Can't seem to find anyone who has that Model #. Everyone wants to sell the one that comes with the replacement bracket (RS5407).

Thanks.

  • 4 weeks later...

My 2002 2500HD 8.1/Allison has one. My dealer told me that it was an option that only came with heavy duty class 5 towing package. Cant find a part number for ya, but look behind the driver front tire toward the front of the truck and you will see it to the rear of the skid plate, if you have that option. :nopity:
