Help cargo/dome/courtesy lights staying on

Recommended Posts

:chevy: This is puzzling me. Wife came in this evening and asked if I forgot to turn off lights in truck. Of course I was never in truck today or the last week.

For no apparent reason my cargo/dome/courtesy lights started staying on for no reason. If I turn the key on they go off. Take key out and open and close door, lock door and they do not time out. I can turn off the cargo light with the switch on the dash but not the remaining lights. All door switches appear to be in good working order. I disconnected the battery for the night, in hopes that maybe this will reset the computer or whatever.

About 6 weeks ago I changed the factory mirrors to PowerVision mirrors, since I use truck to tow fifth wheel trailer.

If anyone has any pearls of wisdom on how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. I am going out of town next weekend, towing fifth wheel to Townsend Tn and do not want to have problems while out of town. If disconnecting the battery does not work I will have to remove the lamps or identify the appropriate fuse and remove it. Many times these days the fuse controls more than one thing, so I will have to make sure that it only controls the courtesy lamps.

Please help if you can. If you are not sure any suggestions is appreciated too.

Thanks,

Denny

Does your truck have door pin switches or is the dome circuit grounded through the latch. Maybe the truck thinks the door is 'open' when its not, check for pin switches in door jambs, where door meets fender. Your switch should be located in the sides of the dash panel.

I can almost guarantee the drivers door pin switch has failed. My '99 Yukon did the same thing. I bought a new pin switch from the dealer for about $8.00. Repalced it in about 2 minutes. The reason it is most likely the drivers side is that the door is opened many more times thatn the right door on average.
