door dings

Recommended Posts

Some one opened thier door in a parking lot and dinged my door! I've had my new truck less than a month. Anyone ever had success making the guilty party pay for the damage?

Anyone know where the cheapest place to get the OEM body side moldings?

I had just purchased my new '05 2500HD about a month prior to a similar incident. I took my old truck, a well maintained, clean, shiny '95 K3500 to Home Depot about a mile from home, and parked in a normal parking space right next to the cart corral.

Somebody tried to get a cart out of the corral sideways, and didn't just bump my truck, they actually banged it repeatedly! No note on the windshield, no apologetic shopper waiting nearby.

I just think I was lucky, the dents and scrapes they caused probably trimmed $500 of the value of my truck, but at least I lucked out and wasn't driving the '05 on that particular trip.

Lesson learned: Don't park next to the cart corral, don't park next to anything.

People are bogue!

Had good luck making them pay. My wife parked her Blazer at Walmart and ran in, I stayed in the car. We'll a lady parked next to us and her brat was acting up in the back seat swinging the car door and sure enough, bang right into my wifes new Blazer. I had a few choice words with the lady and she was like whatever so when she came out of the store there was a black & white parking her in. That ended up costing her $800.00.

I put 4" stainless nerf bars on my 03 HD and so far no door dings but I'd be willing to bet there are a few cars with a round dent in there door.

My poor 98 Lumina has atleast 15 door dings. I keep the car spotless but i swear its a magnet for door dings whereever I park it. :seeya:

A friend of mine watched as a lady opened her back door into his new Buick a few weeks ago. As he approached his car he saw her trying to wipe the dent away an his fender. He asked for her insurance information and she said she didnt have it but as soon as he got on his cell phone to call the cops she presented the information. So he was able to get her to pay for the damage, but it wasnt too bad, the paintless dent removal was able to get it out.

I hate dings!! :chevy: And the careless idiots who inflict the damage. If you live in southern California, like I do, I can recommend a guy who performs ding-removal miracles without repainting. I've been taking my vehicles to him for several years now, and he has been able to remove most of the dings. Leave a post, or e-mail me & I'll give you the info.

i can understand that mistakes happen. i personally always put my hand where my door would hit when i open the door in a tight parking spot. but here in miami, people open there door till it touchs the car next to them. it really pisses me off. one time i was sitting in my car waiting for my girlfriend when this lady next to me opens her door till it hits mine, and she actually watches it hit. i rolled down my window and scared the crap out of her. she didnt dent it, but still, dont let your car touch other ppls.

she didnt speak any english, but i taught her a word or two that day!

I agree that accidents happen. The thing that really makes me mad is when I'm in a store somewhere and come out to find that someone parked in the spot next to me and got really close (either by parking with 1/2" of the line under their tires, or by parking at an angle in the parking space). I might be able to understand in a crowded parking lot, in a lot where all the other cars have crept to the right in their space, or in lots with small spaces. But most of the time these people are just being lazy (plenty of open spaces, nobody squeezing the spaces next on the other side of them, etc.)

If they're on the driver's side of me there's almost no way to get in without bumping doors. I usually try to gently set the door against their door and squeeze in without moving the truck too much. If they're on my passenger side I normally back out and then let my wife and kids get in. Makes me wish that the little foam door protector blocks had been left on the truck when I bought it. :banghead:

Man... some kind soul keyed my Jeep last Friday  First time I've been keyed, and it pisses me off to no end  Thankfully, just the drivers door and not the whole side.

I think I know who did it, too... but how do you prove something like that or get them to admit it

At work, in the 12-floor parking garage, there's only about 4 slots per floor that I'll park in- the end ones, all of which have big triangular empty spots beside them. I've driven to the top, back down and then up again to find a spot. And to make matters worse, the freaking slots are a good 6" narrower than a normal slot  They can fit more cars that way, ya know

At stores and restaurants and such, I always park w-a-y in the back, I don't mind walking. I'll drop the kids and wife at the door if they like, but they usually don't mind. Got 'em trained well :D

Oh- my truck does have one door ding. More like a small dent. And guess which idiot did it :banghead::rolleyes::shakehead: My Caprice door was hanging, I was having a stellar-bad day and got pissed and kicked it.

It was like in slow-motion....

I KNEW I had parked far away enough, I couldn't believe my eyes. When I got out to inspect my work, I double checked the door swing, and sure enough, I was a good inch away. I over-extnded the door when I kicked it :wtf::(
