Nerf bar questions

Recommended Posts

Hello. This is my first truck, and I am pretty clueless. It is a little difficult to get into as I am only 5'8". I would like to get a set of nerf bars, and would like some guidance on what to look for. Length, brands, finish, etc. I don't want to paint them body color.

Thanks,

Chuck

I went with GM OE, they are chrome plated stainless steel. Will last forever. Bought them from GMpartsdirect.com. The cutout and rubber pad run completely between the two doors on the crew cab instead of most aftermarket ones that have a seperate cutout/pad for each door.

Just my preference.

Westin Chrome Plated Stainless for me.....The GM's were a little pricey and I scored a deal on the Westins. Lifetime warranty on the chrome, easy install, and look and fit great on the truck. My wife and kids enjoy them....

ah its not that high. 5'6" here and mine is much higher

I don't have them yet, but I like the look of the N-Fab's best.  They have more of an "offroad" look.  Just my $0.02.

I didn't realize there was an OE solution. Do you have the part number(s)?

The nerf bars don't actually bend as some folks think, the installation requires the brackets for the bars to be mounted underneath the rubber cab bushings. So... when you step on the bars you slightly compress the bushing and it feels as thought the bar gives a little.

I plan on getting some for mine too and one thing on my "list" is that is has to be frame mounted, no body mounts at all. Also with the salt used here, chromed stainless is the only way to go. I was looking at Westin wheel to wheel but will look at the GM ones too.

I bought the wheel-to-wheel stainless steel bars, and like ABQFirefighter I'll never have anything else. They're way too handy for putting things into the front of my bed or getting things out, especially with my fold-a-cover tonneau. (Bought a bedgate bed divider that sits just behind the front panel on the fold-a-cover, making a nice compartment for groceries, etc., and leaving the rest of the bed for longer / dirtier stuff).
