Vacationed in Alaska a couple of years ago, drove around interior in an RV (to heck with the boat cruises!) We spent a night in Denali Nat'l park, and during a flight seeing tour of Denali where they land you on the glacier at base camp, We got the opportunity to spend 2 hours there with all of the climbers, a few miles from Denali (formerly known as Mt McKinnley)...that was incredible.

So, I never made the connection to the GMC "Denali" until you mentioned it!

However, the truck is "Summit" White, so I've got a whole theme going on there I guess.

Wasn't Denali the native american word for the mountain before it was named Mt. McKinley??

The park is named Denali, but I don't think they ever officially changed the name of the mountain.

Well I know the mountain is still called McKinley, it's just the name of the park that has changed. And as for Denali being an Native American derived word, I'm not sure, but a lot of the towns and attractions there are...the Matanuska Glacier for example, or even Alaska itself, which was created from the N.A. word Alyeska. And Alyeska Mountain is also one sweet spot to ski and snowboard up there by the way.

Ok, I did some digging around cause this got me wondering...

Denali is what the native americans had already named the mountain.

It was named for President McKinley around 1908.

The state of Alaska recognizes it by the name Denali.

The US government however still calls it McKinley and gave in a little by calling the park Denali.
