2006 2500HD Changes

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering what is changing on the 06 2500HD from the 05?  Is there any pics out for the new 06 trucks?

The only things I've seen so far are:

* Replacement of electric camper mirrors

* Slight increase in TQ and HP on DMAX. Probably nothing more than a slight chip change.

* Allison goes from 5 to 6 speed.

This is very late in the year for any significant cosmetic changes to not be known. So I would assume the trucks will look the same as 2005.

One can speculate that tire pressure monitoring system will be available and/or standard. I saw somewhere that many vehicles will have it as of 2006 model year.

One disappointment in the Chevy 2500HD line is that the "powerdome" hood is going to be on all the full size Chevy trucks in 2006. But the taller bumper will still distinguish the 2500HD. Here's a 2006 Intimidator SS, and the hood is evident.

Fortunately, 2006 will be an abbreviated model year, as the 2007's have been accelerated in development so that they come out earlier than GM had originally planned.

IMO  While the HD hood is an improvement to the looks of the 1500/2500LD series, there needs to be more distinguishable difference between the light duty and heavy duty trucks.

A hood serves no other purpose than to cover the engine compartment to keep out the rain and snow. The "distinguishable difference" is in the capabilities of the vehicle.

While that is very true, it's nice to have a truck look like a "truck" also.

That sucks how they making all the Silverados with our big HD hoods now, kinda disappionting, makes our trucks look beefy. Hopefully they all dont have the molding over the wheels like our HD's

That's an option, as it has been in the past. But there won't be many 2006's sold, because the 2007 model year will come earlier than usual, and a lot of the sales people at the dealers will be advising customers to wait for the 2007's.
