Bought the wife a new ride

Well after a couple months of trying we sold our 2000 Chevrolet Silverado this weekend. While trying to sell it we have been looking at just about every mid to full-size SUV out there trying to decide what she wanted. We narrowed everything down to either a Nissan Murano, a Chevrolet Avalanche, or the Hummer H3. Last night we purchased a new Hummer H3.

2006 Black Hummer H3

Adventure Package: Offroad Suspension, 33" Tires, Electronic Fully Locking Differential, 4.03:1 2-speed Transfer Case, and Carpet Floor Mats

Ebony Cloth Trim

Automatic Transmission

Sunroof

Fog Lamps

XM Satellite Radio

CD/MP3 Player with 7-speaker Monsoon 200-watt sound system

Trailer Package

Black Tube Nerf Bars

It goes back to the dealer on Friday to have the Roof Marker Lamps installed. It really wasn't any more expensive than either the Murano or Avalanche and the wife really loves it.

Very

Those tow hooks actually look like they're made to yank something out of a mudhole!

Is the power where it needs to be?

What's the towing capacity?

How many questions are we allowed to ask in one post?

How do feel the civil war in the United States affected the cost of a bushel of rice in the late 19th century?

Only you Wingnut would ask something like that!:thumbs:

The tow hooks do seem to be pretty stout. There are two on the front bumper and one on the rear. Looks a little dis-proportionate but I guess it works.

It seems to be a little underpowered but with a 4,700lb curb weight it isn't a light vehicle. Our Silverado was about 5,000lb curb weight with a V8. So, 220HP and 225lb-ft of torque is a little underpowered. However it does get up to speed pretty quickly and before you know it you are doing 80mph. It definately doesn't feel like it though. It is pretty torquey at low rpm so it should be good for off-roading (if I can ever get it away from the wife and out on the trail without her knowing).

Towing capacity is 4,500lbs. Not a whole lot but I won't ever tow much with it anyway. Enough for a small trailer or some wave runners!

One of the main reasons I didn't go with the H-3 was the I5. I just don't know what GM was thinking. It may be an ok motor for the Colorado, but that motor will work way too hard. It won't be long before a V8 is an option. I just think they should have done it right the first time.

Only an inline-5 is available atm? Ghey. Not knocking your new ride, man, but I like a little more power behind the wheel for something of that size and price. They could've at least put the 5.3 in it. Just like they should've put the Duramax(option) in the H2. It seems lately that GM doesn't get many things right the first time.

I like it!! Congrats. It looks like a fun vehicle.

The I5 probably has plenty power for the wife (and good gas mileage). Sure I would like more, but a great gear ratio will make for that.

What gear ratio does it have?

And could you maybe tell us what you paid for it?

The tires are Bridgestone Dualer A/T's, 285/75R16's. I would have preferred BFG's myself but these will do for now. I will probably replace them with BFG's when they need replaced.

From what I have read, it has a 4.56 final drive axle ratio. As for purchase price, there aren't any incentives and they are going for straight MSRP. So, if you go to Hummer.com and build your own, that is the price you will get.

It is pretty roomy for a mid-sized SUV. I'm not a small fellow myself...6'0", 250lbs. and I'm comfortable in it. The H2 is much larger but I like the H3.
