285's fit no problem

Recommended Posts

I got my 285/75/16 Yokohoma Geolander's installed saturday on the factory rims and they cleared fine. I even did one mounted on a Eagle alloy rim that was a 4.5" offset that worked, but would be better if the truck was lifted. So I stuck with the factory rims, OWL out. It looks awesome, the Geolanders have a wicked tread pattern, and they make the truck look like a truck finally. Its amazing how much bigger they are for just being one size up. Plus they're pretty cheap, only like $135 a tire. I have before pics right before i left and I'll take some ones of it now. I cranked the t-bars a little but nothing drastic.

Good to hear that Matt. I bet they look great.

I would like to add 285's with 8" or 8.5" after market wheels. Has anyone found a wheel, other than stock, that works without having to do ANY trimming or torsion bar adjustments?

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD CC, Standard Box, 4X4, Duramax.

Thanks in advance.

Torque the only way 285's are gonna fit without any adjustment or trimming is on the stock wheels and that is a maybe. There just isn't room for the tire on 8"+ aftermarket wheels without it rubbing.

That seems to be the consensus. I don't mind leveling the truck but I don't want to f*** up the ride. I did that with my prior truck, 2002 F250. It looked great but rode like crap.

How is your ride with the green keys? Any issues since the lift? Did you change your shocks too?

Nice truck, by the way!

Thanks!

I have no issues with the green keys at all. Been in for 2-1/2 years and 25K mi. with no problems. I first tried cranking the stock bars but the ride was way harsh and basically sucked. I was skepticle about the green keys so I brought it back in and swapped them out and raised it 2.5" and that ride sucked on the other end of the scale. The ride was way bouncey and out of control. I brought it back in and lowered it to 2" of lift and the ride was actually real nice so I have left it that way. I would compare the ride to 3-4 turns of your stock keys. Just a little stiffer than stock but not harsh. Still run the stock shocks too but do believe that a set of Bilsteins would help even more as people have reported.

If your truck is a daily driver then i would recommend the green keys. If you like to go off road a lot I would suggest a good suspension lift instead.

Honestly just about 4-5 turns of the bars should do it, which should be done anyway to anyones truck. Plus probably more since it will settle.

But mine sits close to level now, and actually I haven't noticed any difference in ride feel. I just put new stock length Bilstein shocks in about 5 months ago, amazing difference.

Did you get an alignment done after 4-5 turns of the t-bars?

My girl and I both run 285 on our Z71s, with no lift.

She has hers on stock wheels, with no rubbing. I have mine on some Centerline Shadows, and I rub a lot at full lock, but they look awesome.
