Alternator question

Recommended Posts

Hey All -

Just ordered a new 8.1 / ZF with dual batteries and the hi-output alternator (145 amp). I haul a heavy slide-in & run some accessories, so I need all the juice I can get.

Dealer called me & said factory has just stopped offering the 145 as an option but that they would drop one in for me when the truck is delivered & would only charge me for 1/2 labor and parts, as it "wasn't really their fault". Not trusting of dealers, how can I verify that they did put the new alternator in the truck? I don't see any tag on mine listing the amps. Should it be larger than the standard 105? I don't want them to try to pull one on me saying they installed something that they didn't & then take my $$.

Kinda a screwy question. Sorry -

You should be able to cross refferance part numbers. My concern would be the buss wiring because I do not know if they upgraded wire size with factory 145 amp alt of not. Also fo what it is worth, I have plowed snow for years with GM trucks with stock 105 amp alts and dual batteries and I have never had any power problems and plow pumps are tuff on electrical system. THe dueal batteries you have will hemp you more than the alt will,
