KEVIN............... I just ordered a Hypertech III for my 04

6.0. I am looking for mainly more mpg. and a little torque

mgt. override because I also heavy tow and snowplow !

The Hypertech can set many different timing, gear, tire,

shifting, etc. options with a simple plug in..................

I like the idea of being able to remove the tune and return

to the stock set up when warranty service is required.

Plus once the tune is unloaded into the truck you can use

the controller to read and clear codes on other GM OBD

2 vehicles.

I printed out a few spec. sheets on different tuners and

some are different from the others......................

Price too.......$329 for hypertech, $399 for Diablo, $529

for the Westers

I had the Hypertech "piggyback" box tuner for my 97 350

Chevy.

Set for the 93 octane tune and that b***h screamed !

I FEAR the unknown.....So went with Hypertech again

......geo

WILL post mpgs on both the 87 and 93 tunes as well as

seat of the pants feel !!!

Too bad the only dyno shop around charges $200 PLUS

for a session ! Me toooo cheap !!!!!!!! :chevy:

A Wester's tune for a 2001 is $495, less the 10% special is $445.50.

And when you buy your NEXT truck in the future, you get a $495 credit toward the tune for that truck, and the next, and the next!

Absolutly no need to remove a Wester's tune when you have to bring the truck to the dealers, they cannot see or detect it. If then reflash it for any reason, a new PCM is only a phone call away. I had a Hypertech before my Wester's tune, there is no comparison!!

Don't forget one of our sponsors PCMFORLESS. Link is to the right.

I love mine and from what I hear, they do the same things as Westers. Not sure on the mail order price, but for my dyno tune, it wasn't much more than the hypertech including all the dyno time!

Don't do the Hypertech - they're junk!  Go with the Wester's.

:chevy: Why do you say the hypertech is junk? i just bought one for my 2003 6.0 and im very happy with it. I can tell a noticable diference. i raised my rev limiter, changed tire size to correct speedo because i have a lift and changed the shift to firm and raised the top speed from factory setting to 128mph "big difference"

i'm not sure on mileage , i havent went a long distance yet. :wtf:

FREY...............I checked out PCM for less site......Quite the

deal for $250 bucks............

But like the Westers I have to swap the PCM....................

I like being able to change from the hot rod tune to the

"grunt" tune for towing or plowing at a moments notice !

I LIKE having that handheld scanner for the other GMs in my

fleet to read and clear codes with......................geo

I had one of those for my truck. Yes, it recalibrated the speedo, raised the speed governer. As for performance it did nothing, but make my truck ping. Don't count on any mileage gains because you won't get any. Go with the Wester's tune, you'll get more than doing the intake and exhaust.

what year you do try your hpertech on? because i know from 2002 -2003 there is a difference in performance. the guy at the local performance shop installs the hyper tech and he said with a cold air kit and the programmer he can guarantee 40hp

so my next purchase is definatly cold air kit! i can notice a difference because i have 35" tire and 410 gears and could barely roast'em on dirt now it tears it up through 2nd gear. and mid range is much better. i still wish i would have bought the 8.1 but i didnt plan on lifting it either. :chevy:

Freyguy, PCM4Less does *almost* what Wester's is able to do. Their tunes aren't bad at all, and I'd definitely get one of theirs before ANY handheld, but Lyndon Wester has the edge in experience. He's been at it for 20+ years. He modifies tables others don't touch. Plus his warranty blows everyone else away...

Mud, maybe you noticed a change with your handheld, and you may be pleased. Pop a Wester's in there and you'll understand :) !!! There really is no comparison.

Sonjaab, the thing with the Wester's is you don't have to change from race to grunt or anything- it's ALL always there. You will have two shift patterns, set to your liking, for things like you're describing. I actually use my tow-mode button for KILL-mode, and just tow in regular mode. Works awesome like that !!!

Y'all, you CAN'T beat a Wester's tune.

I've asked several times at quite a few places, whenever anyone wants to say their tune is better than a Wester's tune, to beat my numbers- 3mpg better and 1.2 seconds in the 1/4m. These are HUGE numbers, and I have yet to see any competitors tune even close to these gains.

Y'all... the numbers don't lie. Wester's can not be beat.

QUAD........$1000 bucks worth of mods and only 3 mpg. increase ??????

Wow..............I will take my chances for $329 and see if my current 17

mpg hiway increases by that or MORE.

Not to mention my plowing or towing mpg...........geo :)

WELL....The big brown truck arrived !

Installed the Hypertech 3 program in a few minutes.

I set it up for the 93 octane tune, raised rev. and shift points

to 5600 (top of power band).

Using 87 fuel till I run it out and try 93 results............

Wicked burnout ! Would barely lay a patch before !

Squeek em' shifting into 2nd at WOT !

Notice minor spark knock using 87 when pounding on it.

Also seems a bit doggy midrange.......I figure the 87 fuel

is the issue.

Will drive till the 87 is gone.....Then try some 93.......

HAPPY so far!........................

BTW: Used the handheld to clear a code in my buds GM car too!

:):cry::cry: .................geo
