Rusting Lug Nuts

Recommended Posts

As you can see my truck in the sig has custom wheels with exposed lug nuts. The problem I'm having is that they rust profusely. Everytime it rains or snows they are covered in rust. I have had three or four sets of custom wheels on my previous trucks and never had this problem. I have to polish them off about once a month. They are getting to the point of being permantly pitted with rust. Did I get ripped off when I bought the wheels? Should I get stainless lug nuts instead of chrome? The upkeep is rediculous. The rest of the truck looks immaculate, except for "rusty nuts". Any recommendations?

I think the grease job is out of the question. Sounds like it works though. There has to be a solution to this. Remember the early 90's when every sports car had brushed aluminum wheels with exposed lug nuts. They never rusted. I have a 99 Accord, same thing, and they look fine. Are they stainless or aluminum? I paid a s%$tload for wheels and tires and this is BS.

Pewter Pro-Tec,

Thanks for the info. I orderded the cone-seat style McGards from Summit Racing. I think it set me back $115.00 (8 sets) with shipping. They have a lifetime guarantee on them.

M14 X 1.5, 22mm socket for 8 lug GM

Pt # 64014 (set of 4)
