Diablo Predator

Recommended Posts

I wish I could figure out how to post my Dyno but here is a run down. I have been going through all of the posts about different Tunes and Westers seems the way to go but the dealerships around here (VA) are really picky. So I went with a programmer so I could drop the factory tune back on the truck in a moments notice if need be. I was going to go with HyperTech but Diablo Predator was almost $100.00 cheaper and does more. So here are my stats. This truck has NO other modifications. It is a 2004 2500 HD 6.0 L 4x4 with the 4l80e and 17000 miles.

Prior to the 87 Octane Tune:

77.39 degrees F. 21% Humidity SAE: 098 (no idea what SAE is)

233.40 rwHP

280.98 rwTQ

After the 87 Octane Tune :D :

78.48 degrees F. 19% Humidity SAE: 098

270.93 rwHP

302.20 rwTQ

This is the 87 Octane Tune and not the Performance Tune. The 87 Octane tune does not reduce your towing capacity either. Also these stats were within 10 minutes of each other so there was no learn time. So far WITH the A/C on I am getting 2 miles per gallon better than I did without the A/C on before.

As in a previous post by 8.1Haulin (or something like that) he talked about how these engines are running lean. On my '04 it is running the returnless fuel system and was running VERY lean. This tune fixed it to were it is right on the money (12.70 on the dyno versus the original 15.3)

Now...One question should I disable or reduce the TQ management? Right now that has not been touched.

(If your in VA I went to Performance AutoSport Inc. They are a Ford Saleen distributor but they did wonders on my GM. http://www.performanceautosport.com Dyno plus Programmer $473.98 including Tax (they tuned it and showed me how to modify the tune as well) )

hey man really im pressed number there adn all these fellas say that having the PCM redone is the only way to go and say that those programmers arent the way to go at all im just looking for ease of use adn not taking aways any towing atributes to the truck and if possible still staying wth 87 gas for my 6.0L and if u do take out torque managment let us kow if the number change or maybe it would have no affect. but plz if it does let us know adn where would u go to get the best deal on that programmer i was thinking of the hypertech but the predator seems the way to go. or if anyone else has the number for the hypertech would really like the input????

thnx in advance and happy trails

I have had the 87 tune installed for about a week now and there is a big difference...i haven't put it on the dyno but there is a difference in the butt meter....let us know if taking off the tq management makes a big difference.

I removed the upshift TQ, TQ management % reduction and the Abuse mode time limit. After driving a couple blocks in the city I pulled over and put the Abuse mode and the Upshift TQ management back on. It bothers me when I add about 3/4 thottle to go from a light, it chirps when it hits 2nd gear (reminds me of my old shift kit in my 78 Monte Carlo that was raced). I left the % TQ management reduction on and seems to drive much better and the wife can handle it without gripping as much. :banghead:

I probably will not dyno it for a long while. As of right now I am running the 87 octane tune with the shift firmness increased for the OD and the increased the OD shift sooner (3rd-4th shift) portion. I just filled up and will let you know my mileage when I fill up again. Since this is my daily driver it is driven on highway about 30% of the time and in-town the rest.

Hopefully will have some better mpg numbers soon.

:chevy: I too purchased the Diablo and am very impressed with the power diffrence. Only thing I don't get is why the mileage is so low. Before the tune I was geting about 10 mpg. now with the tune I am getting 9 mpg with a light foot. I drive only street and have about 1500 mi on my 05 6.0. any input? Others are getting 12-13 in town. Is it because it is not broke in or is it my driving, or is something wrong?

"frmotorsports" I found that until the engine broke in the mileage was poor as well. My mileage did not increase until about 10k.

Now for my update. I just had to fill up again. I averaged about 13.1 mpg. This includes towing a boat around (Capri 195 Bayliner), city and highway driving. I also kept playing with the 87 tune until I got the "feel" where I wanted it. I basically had to go back to the tune I spoke about earlier. I increased the fuel for WOT and that was a mistake. Remember the old cars when you hit it and could watch the gauge go down...well that is what happened so I immediatly changed it back.

All in all it tows better, better mileage, and better fuel economy. So for my truck I will be saving about $400.00+ a year if I only fill up once a week and gas is at $2.00 a gallon which we all know it is way above $2.00 a gallon so I will save more. In less than one year this tune will pay for itself.

I plan on hooking it back up to the travel trailer in the upcoming weeks (9000 lbs.) and will let you know how the truck handles this trailer after the tune.

GUYS....I have been pondering a programmer for my 04 6.0.

Been checking the sponsor here Truckstuff.com and come up

with 3 choices.

The Diablo which requires prem. gas $399 bucks according to the info. on their web site...............AM I reading it wrong ? I see some of you are doing the 87

tune.

Can the Diablo be used to read and clear codes also?

The Super chip which will run on 3 different gas grades.

But I want to run on 87. But gives you little or no more HP. $399

minus $70 instant rebate

The Hypertech which has 3 different gas grade settings.

The 87 tune adds 25 horses plus adjusts rev. limiter, cooling fans,

trans. shift points, shift firmness, top speed, speedo/Odo

correction for different tire sizes if wanted.

BIG PLUS...........The Hypertech can be used to read and clear

(and in some cases change) codes in GM cars and trucks.

Plus pull the tune out when its dealer warranty or emission test time !

$399 minus $75 instant rebate and free shipping !

Can the Diablo do this stuff like the Hypertech?

Both seen to give 35 or so more HP with the 87 tune.

I am sick of my buds 04 5.3 1/2 ton ex-cab spanking my 6.0 !!!!

Opinions?...............................thanks geo

Yes the diablo will do what the hypertch will do and them some.

There is a lot more adjustments available with the diablo.

I have had the diablo on my truck for about 3 months and I love it.

I run 87 tun and buy the cheap gas, no problems.

If you look around on the internet you can get the diablo for about $350 and that's what I paid for it. I just can't remember who I bought it from.

I was looking at the hypertech and I see multiple people have hypertech and love them. Others have Diablo and love them. But I am not sure if hypertech has this info anywhere though... Diablo states with the 87 Tune (they actually have the 87 tune in the device. the premium gas is only for the Performance Tune) does not reduce the tow rating of the vehicle. Many tunes reduce the amount the vehicle can tow.

My deciding factor was I contacted Diablo and had a response about the towing question in less than 2 hours. I never received a response from hypertech.
