exhaust leak?....

Recommended Posts

I read quite a few posts similar to this, but didn't really get a lot of info.

2000 K2500 Crew w/5.7, just rolled 140k

Run Synblend 10-30 and no other odd knocking or ticking sounds to speak of.

New noise started a couple of days ago. Ticking from what seems to be passanger side.

Only happens when cold.

Barely hear it when in Park or Neutral only under load.

Once up to opp temp, it mostly goes away.

Example: Drove it 20 miles to the barn where we keep our horses. Ticked, then went away after warm. Driving down the road into the barn had to drive through water (~10 in deep). Ticking started again. (got the exhaust wet and cooled it down? exhaust leak?)

Am I close here?

Thanks,

W

Sponds like a exhaust leak for sure. Prob a cracked manifold.

I agree, sounds like an exhaust leak. My old dodge was terrible for breaking manifold bolts. You might want to check them, though I do not know if the GMs do this routinely or not.

my 95 1/2 ton 350 did the same thing at about 130,000 miles when i took off the manifold there was a hairline crack all the way around it allmost broke in two when pulled it off that was the passenger side to the drivers side was fine it had a small crack but i could live with that but like you said it would go away when it would warm up also make sure you put some liquid wrench on it and let it soke for a while makes those bolts come out easy and so you don't twist them off. i got a replacement at napa i think it was 100 to 150$ i then sold it so no worrys now. if the same problem happened i would have went with some gibson headers because if you brake the other one replacing both is about the same price hope this helps. also there was no gaskets behind mine they where on there metal to metal i bought some from shucks i think they where fel pro didn't have any more problems after that.
