Auxillary Wiring Question

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 2500HD. I am trying to find a good way to get some wiring from inside the cab to under the hood. So far, I haven't been able to find a good place to do so. The best bet so far would seem to be punching a hole in the boot that runs the main wiring to under the hood and going through it. I just wondered if anyone here had a better idea. I only need to run 3 rather small wires out of the cab. Thanks for any help.

I wish the general would run "customer access circuits" like they do in the ford superduties. They leave us like 8 wires through the firewall that we can use for whatever.

You can poke through that grommet as you already mentioned, just be sure to seal with a good silicone sealer, something like Marine Goop works really well for this"

I drilled a hole with a step bit near the boot you mentioned and put a rubber grommet in the hole. After the wires are through the grommet silicon the remaining grommet hole shut

I just did this for my XM antenna for my SkyFi2. The suggestion then was to punch through the outside edge of the steering boot. Worked pretty good for me. I wire loomed the wire under the hood. a quick look and you would not even know I did it. Of course anybody that really knows what is going on sees it. Anyway, once inside the cab you will have to do some zip tie work to keep the wire from interfering with the top of the gas peddle. No big deal, but something you should do.

Some GM trucks...esp. those with the VYU plow prep. will have

a hole drilled and plugged in the 8 o'clock position under the

power brake booster area.

Its worth a quick look see............. :uhoh: ............geo

When I added an amp to my '04 Sierra, up under the dash on the drivers side. was an "knock out" in the sound deadening material. I remove that and there was a dimple in the sheet metal. I drilled it out from the engine compartment. I siliconed around the wire. It was up under the sound deadening material in the engine compartment also so it is weill protected from the elements.
