In reality, those numbers are all pretty close, almost negligible. Also, I don't know when the test date for the article was, but the torque numbers for the GM truck are outdated. The current Duramax offering puts out 605 lb-ft of torque. That may or may not make a difference, but that's the problem many of these articles have had....the current power wars make them outdated before they're even published.

You can always find proponents for any cause. When the numbers are that close I go with what pleases me. I bought my DMax for about $5K less than the Dodge and $7K less than the Ford. That did include a $2500 GM Card bonus, but still I got what I wanted. I guess I have always been a GM kind of guy, and my Chevy dealer knows me.

I owned a dmax/ally and a 6.0PSD/TorqShift. Both are great motors but I think the tranny makes a difference. I believe there is less loss through the TS. I always thought the dmax was more "fun", though. Just felt faster. It got better mileage, too. That was an 01 (LB7?) dmax.

My PSD was one of the many, many bad ones and got bought back by Ford. My first year dmax was bullet proof. Never had one issue with it. For that reason alone I'd rate it above the PSD. It was also a lot quieter.

I have no knowledge about the Cummins. But it sure it nice to have all these fun and powerful diesel's to choose from. We're all winners these days.

It shouldnt be a test of who's has the most power and torque but of longetivity and durability and the Dmax and Cummins would be the favorite of the two, the ford 6.0 is a p.o.s it may have the high rpm but wouldnt last long then either of the two. If mags like these are gonna be biased towards ford all the time then why bother having a diesel shoot out between the the other two brands and knowing ford there probably paying them.

The dieselpage is a good source for that kind also, all i know is they do a fair comparison between all three and the best thing about it is the Dmax comes up first between hauls.

How can you say that "mags like these are biased towards Ford" in one post and then recommend The Diesel Page as a site that “you know” did their own fair, unbiased comparison test? If anyone were to be more biased towards a DMAX it would be them – and go figure, the DMAX won.

The Diesel Page is a great site with great people, but your post(s) makes a poor argument as far as being biased is concerned

My DMAX is a beast and my Furd performs just as good. It’s just too close in my mind to say which one is really better. Truth be told, if I only could own one of these trucks – I would have to flip a coin. So I guess I have a biased opinion towards both.

Yeah those all could be 04's, because the current Cummins is 610 of TQ.

Also we all know these Diesels don't make full power untill they are broken in. Whos to say that the Duramax and the Dodge could of had less than 5000 miles on it, and the Ford was broken in more at 50,000 miles.

To many variables in those Mag testings.

I find it hard to beleive to, b/c ive heard everyone saying that the Duramax will smoke the 8.1 )unloaded) drag racing, people say that the 8.1 is good off the kick, but d-max comes out on top...See that point, since i out ran my friends new cummins diesel by 6 car lenths, my truck will be the duramax....

I DONT THINK SO........

I've said it before...every single truck has a mind of its own in my opinion. I have seen the exact same truck 1:1, get beat by its identicle twin truck on more than one occasion. Some trucks just flat out perform better regardless if they are the same configuration.

I like Ford and GM pickups, but those numbers are so close who cares?

Like I've said a dozen time, the motor (gas or diesel) would be one of the last of my concerns if I was buying a new HD pickup. The acceleration numbers are for guys who buy them to brag about and probably don't own a trailer! In the real world they don't mean squat. Everybody knows the Cummins and Duramax are better quality engines than the current PSD.

If you have any doubts, go to a Ford site and look at the #s of guys who are trading off diesels and getting into 6.8Ls until Ford comes out with the new diesel in a year or two. They'd rather step down a bit in performance to get a reliable engine than keep taking the diesel to the shop. Heck, alot of the 6.0L PSD owners are getting about the same mileage as V10 owners and you know that ain't a good thing for Ford!

I'd be more concerned about differences in transmissions, axles, price, tow/cargo ratings and interior ameneties than I would the engine anyway.

Truth be told every mag is biased towards ford and of all people you should know that "Machine" I recommeded the Diesel Page cause they do a fair comparison on all three. Just cruise over to there website and read what they gotta say and if you can handle the fact that the powerstroke either comes in dead last or second to the cummins then live with it. Im not trying to get aggrevated here im just stating the situation.
