Problem with wheels

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any issues with the polished forged aluminum wheels on their 2500hd's. Mine are corroding on the inside center holes where the clear coat stops and meets the back of the wheel. The corrosion keeps moving out towards the center of the wheel. Took the truck to the chevy dealership where I bought it in Pittsburgh Pa and they told me they would replace the wheels. There is a catch though. They said they would only be able to replace them with refurbished wheels, not new ones. I told them that I didn't want someone elses wheels that had to be fixed. Dealership wouldn't spring for new ones. I was dissapointed to hear this since you spend alot of money on a truck and it is not even 3 years old and they wont give you new ones. Any sugestions and has anyone else had this problem. Thanks

2002 2500hd only 16600 miles

These pittsburgh salts eat everything, my Chromed allow wheels are starting to pit. So I bought a set of H2 wheels for the winter. I have heard of the stealerships doing this to save money, you'll probably have no other choice but to take them.

pch02,I work at a GM dealer in the Pittsburgh area and yes we have to use "refurbished" wheels as per GM,But believe me you will not be disappointed with them,I have ordered many of these "refurbished" wheels and I think they look better than the new ones from GM,They seem to put on a little more clearcoat too which helps in our area,Just make sure they are getting them from a company called "Transwheel"

I have tried other companies and they were'nt so great lookin'

So just specify that you want "Tranwheel" wheels and nothing else.

I had the same issue with my wheels 3 months ago. The dealership replaced them with 4 new OEM wheels and surprizingly new center caps also.

I'm in the collision repair business and know that I received a statement from GM concerning use of reconditioned wheels.....I cant seem to find it. I think thier position was DON'T use them???? I will look again for it today and post what it says if I find it.

My concern would be that the wheels we're turned down or welded, possibly compromising the integrity. Would bet that all those wheels in salty climates are doing the same thing. Would cost GM alot of $$$ to replace with OEM.

Thanks alot for the info. That was my thoughts exactly. I figured i would stick with the original wheels unless GM would replace them with new ones. Did u find that statement and how did u get them to replace them with new wheels.

I can't find the info from GM. If I we're you I'd go to GM's website and search there and if you come up empty I'd call GM and tell them that you damaged your wheels in a slight accident and your insurer wants to use recond wheels to repair the damage. Ask for thier position on these wheels and tell them to put it in writing so you can give it to your insurer. Not exactly the truth but lifes rough.

Let us know what they say. Our GM service rep. and all the ones we've had in the past at the dealership would not authorize new wheels,Only Transwheel wheels.

GM even has a service procedure to refinish their wheels,They came out with a bulletin about it I think like 5 or 6 years ago and now its in all their service manuals.
