Getting touch up paint?

Zane

Question

This is sort of off-topic from trucks, but could apply so i'm posting it here..

My grandmother recently purchased a 2004 Buick LeSabre used. It had a few scratches, so the dealership told her they would order her some touch up paint, free of charge..

Fast forward months later... and they say the color she bought does not have touch up paint because it is metallic, but they can mix some for her at they body shop (for a fee i assume).

The color is Steelmist Metallic (88U) and i've found the GM listed touchup paint is WA-812K.

What is the GM part number and is the dealer giving her/us some BS?

It all seems fishy to me..

Thanks!! :D

My parts guy says the part # is 12346629.  It lists it as "Med. Spiral Gray Metallic" but he said, "don't worry about that.  Sometimes it calls it something different."

Thank you very much. I know this color is the same that is on the vette, hence the different name. Strange enough!

I received touch up paint for my first two brand new GM cars from GM / Chevrolet through the mail not long after I bought them, one in 1994, the other in 1997. It seems that the practic of giving out the freebies for new cars is going away because we didn't receive anything additional after buying the three vehicles we've had since 2003.

Anyway, it seems as if GM would have touch up paint (in markers or bottles) available for every color of vehicle that they currently make, especially for recent model year vehicles.

Don't really know that answer, but I'll check with parts and see what I can come up with.
