ext engine oil cooler and trans oil cooler

Recommended Posts

Another totally newbie question here...

I'm just researching trucks online so far. Never owned one, but I want to. I'm going to buy my first travel trailer and I'll need something to tow it with. The trailer I have in mind is about 27' long and has a GVWR of around 7,500 lbs. So I need a stout truck.

I've got my eye on a 2003 Silverado 2500HD crew cab, with the 8.1/Allison, under 30,000 miles (so it's a *BIT* under average of 15,000+/- miles a year).

I've got an idea of what bells and whistles I'd like on it, and I think I can decipher most of the RPO codes when I see the list tomorrow at the used car dealer's lot.

My question is: as a tow vehicle, how important is it to me to have the external transmission oil cooler (RPO: KNP)? How about the enternal engine oil cooler (RPO: KC4)? Are they both important? I've heard the tranny oil cooler is part of the "heavy duty tow package" (RPO: Z82) but I hadn't heard till recently about the engine oil cooler.

Thx
