Thinking About A New GMC 2500HD

Recommended Posts

I am thinking buying a new 2005 GMC 2500HD 4WD SLT crew cab with 6.0 v8 gas engine, auto trans, etc. Are there any "issues" or problems with this truck/engine/trans that I should be aware of beforehand? Everybody happy with theirs?

Thanks for any feedback.

Be prepared to deal with CSK, engie seems strong and long lived even though it knocks when started.

I beg to differ - mine is fine on startup - I believe that its not nearly as prevelant now as it was 3 - 4 years ago. I an very happy with mine (no problems as of yet)

This is my 3rd truck with the 6.0 engine. And while I only have 2200 miles on this one I didn't have CSK with the other ones. I just love this truck. I like the power, I like the way it shifts, I like the way it rides and I like the way it looks. The 12 MPG I get is what I expect,, otherwise I would buy a Toyota if I wanted better mileage and half a truck.

Welcome Dave. You might consider getting the 8.1/Allison for your Crew Cab. I really looked hard at the 6.0 when I ordered my 04 CC. Buddy had same truck I was looking to get and his had the 6.0. Said he was getting 11.5 MPG city or highway.

Looked around and asked a lot of questions on message boards. Found the 8.1 was not getting that much worse MPG. And I could get the 8.1 with the Allison tranny and 3.73 gears. The 6.0 HD's only come wiht 4.10 gears.

I've got a Volant intake and Westers chip for my 8.1 and I'm getting ~10 city. Highway best was 13.7 MPG, but that was before Westers. I'm really pleased with my 8.1. And with the Big Block you get the Allison tranny.

Something to think about.

2005 2500 6.0 gmc long bed 4x4 auto trans 1500 miles on it 12.7 city, driving it somewhat easy 14 .7 on a short drive on eway home from dealer between 70 & 75mph for 75 miles or so. I don't think that fuel consumption is to bad for a h.d truck ! will do a westers tune and cold air intake system in future should up fuel economy a little. It gets a little worse milage than my 2001 powerstoke f350 rides way better, much quieter, no smell (diesel fuel) but i will say not that kind of power either !! All in all a really nice truck my 2 pennys worth :seeya:
