N20 a good idea on 6.0 HD

Recommended Posts

Reading a chevy mag yesterday, saw a article on nitrous on a newer chevy pickup.

I have a 03 6.0 HD ecsb 4x4. Have 1 year of warrenty left. I was told this truck would handle a 150 shot stock. Seems a little much to me. Want a supercharger but thats alot of money. I have a westers 93 hot tune and a vararam non-ram air intake. Truck still a dog of the line, but does nicely over 3000 rpms. Any ideas or advice?

im not a personal fan of nos but... think of it this way, you have a 6500 pound truck, that your trying to make accelerate like a sports car, and your doing this by making the engine literally run at 150%+, when the transmission is really only rated for 100% if that, theres going to be a weak link in the chain somehwere, sure the block is good for it, but somethings going to give one way or another, id say a lower shot would be more ideal, maybe some headers, etc :ughdance:

 If you want to leave out of the hole faster you might want to check into a rear gear change!

The 4L80 is more than up to the task of the extra power and it is based on the old THM400 which is legendary in its abilities to handle goobs of power. I would add a aux tranny cooler though. Also I would strongly recommand that you regear to 4.56 and that will help your launches a lot because that is a heavy truck and deeper gear will put more torque to ground and get the engine into its power range quicker and yet with OD it will still cruise very nicely. And, as a side benifit the deepr gearing will actuall help tranny run a bit cooler because it will require less input torqu in daily driving for the same effect as now and it will get RPM above stall quicker and stall is where a trans makes most of its heat too.

Dumb question - How can he change only th erear gears if he has a 4x4?? Won't this effect the 4x4 gearing? Wouldn't he have to change front and rear?

I never said rear gear only, I said "regear" and if it is a 4x4 it is a given that you have to regear both axles which is a bit more challanging than a 2wd truck regear.
