Shock install

I am planning on replacing my OEM shocks with a set of Monroe Reflex 911181 for the front and 911164 for the year.

I want to do it myself but I have one question....does the truck need to be jacked up to do it..? and does anyone have any tips that I might overlook during the replacement

I have a 2004 GMC 4x4 CC 2500 HD with 285's and the access to the shocks does not appear to be that difficult and the nuts should be no problem as far as rust..etc with only 10K on the truck.

I have called a couple of shops and they want $350 to $370 for the shocks and the install....90 bucks and hour is what I was told. :ughdance:

I can get the 4 shocks from O Reillys for 172.00

Thanks for your help

Just did my 2001 two weeks ago. Piece of cake, no jacking. Used an adjustable wrench to hold the end of the threaded portion of the front shocks, but I suggest you put some lubricant on the threads.

If I recall right, it took a 21mm socket for the bolts (make sure you have a deep well).

Yep, very easy job. Should take a half hour. I used an air ratchet on mine and was done in 20 minutes. the front top bold is the hardest to get too, had to use a hand wrench.

also, from personal expeirence, I have used the Reflexs and was less than happy with them, The Z71 guys have great luck with them, but they are way to soft for an HD. Personal preference really. If anything, look into the self adjusting Monroes for the rear.

Tell us how the install goes and then tell us abou the ride. I havne't seen anyone really rip on the Reflex's other than me...odd man out i be....

Thanks for all the replies, Ive got the deep sockets and will probably do the install this weekend.

I will post a reply on how I like the ride....a couple of shops that I called concerning the Relflex's said that they do many for the HD's....so at this point, just going with what I have read and heard about them.
