GMPP Warranty

Recommended Posts

I was quoted nearly $2700 for a GMPP major guard. I have to get it before 3-10-05 (1 year of owning the truck), so the price dosent nearly double.

I read somewhere that www.gmoutlet.com (black pontiac) sells them cheap. I looked up the truck and it said that mine was a class 4?

I got it broke off in my (_!_) by warranty gold. They were backed by a RRG and went under in the cayman islands (hope they burn in hell), on my last truck. I lost about $1500, never used the warranty.

I'm not about to go with another RRG or anything like that. Mfg warranty only. SO any suggestions as to where to get this at a decent price?

I want at least 7 years covered and a lot of miles lol. I plan to keep the truck until the wheels fall off.

I was on the phone just today with GM Customer Service and got the 6yr/100K miles extended warranty (engine only) as a result of having the CSK. I asked the lady about getting a regular extended warranty and she gave me a # to call for the GMPP 800-631-5590. I don't know who is at that # as I haven't called it yet. My warranty runs out in March this year, so I gotta get one soon.

Just a note - the lady at GM Customer Service was GRADE A+ wonderful. The MOST pleasent expirence I have ever had with customer service anywhere. I spoke to here last week, she got me on 3-way with a local dealer and had them schedule an appointment to have my truck diagnosed and documented for CSK. They also replaced tailgate cables and the Steering Shaft per the TSB. I haven't been to this dealer before so I don't know how they usually deal with customers, but I can't help but think that GM calling them and saying I need an appointment set up helped a little :banghead:

I also checked out GM Outlet when I got mine (6yr 100K) in August (also just under that yr anniversary) but went with Classic Chevy in TX. They offered me the best price and deal (they will do the 12-18mo 0% payment plan GM Outlet didn't). You should give Don Kerstetter a call there.

Oops, yeah my factory warranty runs out this March. I have edited the above post to reflect this.

In looking at it further, my 99 Z-71 has 117,000 miles in 6 yrs and we burnt I-75 UP a few years ago going to NASCAR races and stuff. That averages out to about 19,500 miles / year so IF I keep that same driving rate I should need 36/60,000 or 48/72,000 Warranty on this truck to keep mileage and time equal.

36/60,000 with $100 ded = $1910 at http://www.gmoutlet.com/ at http://www.gmoutlet.com/quote/emailserver/...guard/05mg4.htm

But aren't those base miles you are listing? Most ESPs I've seen are sneaky enough to include the factory warranty in the listed months/miles. Meaning, a 36/60K would really mean: 3 years from date it was put in service but a 24K extra limit on mileage. To cover yourself for 6 years you need a 72 month plan, no?

No, according to the website FAQ, the GMPP warranty months and miles start at GMPP purchace date.

WHEN WILL THE PLAN EXPIRE?

The plan length and miles starts at the date of the GMPP purchase and at the odometer reading at time of purchase.

Example #1

Example: On January 1, 2005 you purchase a GMPP on your eight (8) month old Corvette (Original GM In-Service date was April 1, 2004) with 8,000 miles on the odometer. You purchase a 72 month / 72,000 mile GMPP Major Guard. Your GMPP plan would expire on January 1, 2011 or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Example #2

Example: On January 1, 2005 you purchase a GMPP on your 35 month old Corvette (Original GM In-Service date was December 1, 2002) with 35,000 miles on the odometer. You Purchase a 36 month / 36,000 miles GMPP Major Guard. Your GMPP Plan would expire on January 1, 2008 or 71,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Example  #3.

Example: On January 1, 2005 you try to purchase a GMPP on your 47 month old Corvette (Original GM In-Service date was December 1, 2001) with 9,000 miles on the odometer.  You cannot purchase a GMPP because your vehicle is outside the original GM factory time/miles period.  GM’s FIRM RULE is that you cannot purchase a GMPP on your vehicle unless it is within the 3 year / 36,000 miles (4 year / 50,000 miles for Cadillac) original warranty time/miles period.

So with my truck currently at 28,000 miles and the factory warranty expiring on March 11 2005 the 36/60,000 GMPP would take me to March 11 2008 and 88,000 miles.

GMPP changed the way it works last year to start at the date and mileage at contract start. In fact I got into a little debate with GM Outlet on that as they said it started at in service date and 0 miles. I called the CS number he gave me and proved him wrong.

Like I said before I went with Classic Chevy down in TX as they had the best price and service. My 6yr 100K one takes me out to 2010 and 111K miles.

I took my truck in to the dealer (not where it came from or where I bought it) yesterday to get the power steering box leak and power mirror fixed/replaced and asked the girl in Service about this. She said the process of bringing the vehicle in to get work done under the GMPP was the same as the OEM warranty and totally no hassell with the Major guard. I had explained that I was buying the GMPP somewhere else so that didn't sway her response I don't think. She said that she had bought the GMPP Major Guard for her car when she got it and used it when the AC compressor went out and it was no problem.

She did say that they have all sorts of warranties try to be used and she said the GMPP was by far the easiest and best in her opinion.

But i guess you have to consider the source.
