Tailgate cable finally broke

Recommended Posts

Almost a year after I got the recall notice and GM told me to wait......almost a month after I got the "WHY HAVEN'T YOU GOTTEN YOUR NEW TAILGATE CABLES" letter, and about a week, since I got the letter inviting me to the stealership for the new cables that are now available in this area......IT FINALLY BROKE.

I was putting my new fullsize spare in the bed. Naturally I ignored GM's reccomendations and lifted the tire from the ground to the tailgate, then rolled it on into the bed. When it hit the tailgate I head a "PHFWALLP" and started laughing. I guess it wasn't enough to break totally, but I saw the buldge and pulled and it broke in half like a stick. :D

That'll teach me though, I should have followed GM's reccomendations and not used the tailgate. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have lifted the tire over the side of the bed.... :withstupid::chill::D That way it could have broken it later, when I was sitting on it fishing. :loser:

Get this. I'm the second owner of my HD so the recall didn't come to me.

One day I'm loading a large set of tires into the bed and FWAP! Both cables break. No damage to the gate, thank gawd! SO I bought new cables and kept on truckin'.

5 months later the SES comes on and I take it in to have the code read (bad CPS.)

Couple of days later the lady from the dealership calls for a follow-up "how was your visit" thing and says "I see we serviced a recall while you were in, are you satisfied?" I said not really, since you didn't friggin' tell me you replace the dern things. Service manager says bring in the reciept and GM will refund your $30. Honestly I probably threw away the reciept the day I bought the cables. Not that $30 breaks my bank, but d**n! Could'a told me they did it.

Sorry for the rant! :withstupid:
