Fog Lamp Installation

Recommended Posts

I am installing the GM fog lamp kit in my new '04 2500HD. It's a Work Truck and GM refuses to allow fogs on all but the upper trim levels (only drivers of LS and LT models encounter fog). I installed the same fog lamps on my old '04 1500 and I am familiar with how this works. I simply connected the fogs to terminal D6 in the forward lamp control harness (despite the picture in the instructions that shows A3 as the terminal to use) and I had light - no programming the TBC.

Here's the problem: on my new '04 2500HD, there are two purple wires that occupy terminal D6. I tried connecting to various terminals including D5, all with strange results. The truck has roof clearance lights, but I don't think that makes any difference. Has anyone encountered this problem? I don't know what else to do.

Thank you.

I will take a stab on this, I just done mine a couple weeks ago. It is a 2004HD also

but mine is the LS and yes it Did Not come with the fogs either..

mine also had d6 used, I simply pluuged in the relay installed the switch and then the lights, All Worked great..

I would guess yours too is prewired?? check around under the frontend up on the frame for the end connectors.. mine was not covered just tied out of the way,

the plugs could be seen best from being under the front center,

again everything was there just plugged in the new switch, the relay, and plugged up the lights, hit the switch and presto...

Good luck..

Success! Yes, my truck is prewired. I installed the fogs yesterday exactly as you described with no problems whatsoever. I think the lead into terminal D6 must belong to the cab & auxiliary lamps. GM needs to correct their ridiculous installation "instructions".

The lamps look great and perform much better than I expected. I really appreciate your help.

Thank you!

What part # did you guys use for the kit, and which vendor did you use?

Thanks for the info! :withstupid:

Edit: I have located (using the search function, of course) part # 12498352. Is this the one you used or did you use part # 12499673? The latter appears to be for 2005, and may include the lower air dam housing also (for ~$158 on gmpartsdirect).

I had my dealer order this kit, we first used the part # 12498352 for $139. but the day after he ordered he got a message back saying the number had been changed to part # 12499673..and the cost went to $191. so thats the one..

also it did come with the lower airdam, I did not use mine though.. it was about as easy to trim the holes as it was to swap it.. I used a dremel and about 10 minutes to do.

I was going to buy it from gmpartsdirect... But their shipping was out of reach..

I got mine from the dealer for $191. ToTal Cost..
