4L60E Possible problem?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

I have a 2000 GMC Savana 2500 w/ a 5.0L and 4L60E trans. The tranny was rebuilt @ 132K by AAMCO transmissions. In addition, I switched over to AMSOIL universal ATF. Last Friday night when I was doing a routine oil filter lube / tranny service (drop pan and change fluid), I found some shards of steel inside the tranny pan. It was weird because it never made it to the magnet in the pan but it just all seemed to accumulate below the tranny filter lower opening. The metal shards were silver and didn't look like the normal dark clutch band material that usually gets stuck on the magnet. Can this be a sign of major problems? What could be causing it? I'm still using synthetic in the tranny but switched to MOBIL 1 Synthetic ATF on Friday.

Thanks,
