2005 2500HD gas mileage

Recommended Posts

Looking at a new 05 Crewcab 4x4 2500HD 6.0L auto.  I'd like to know the gas mileage if anyone would please chime in.  Thanks.

stock was about 13-16 averaged between highway and streets on mine. I also noticed that the gas mileage on the window stickers are blank on the 2500 series trucks, anyone know why?

I think its due to the HD Classification and size.

But they do rate the 1500HD. It is rated at 9 city and 12 hiway.

I believe the magic number is 8600 lb gvw. That used to be the weight for not requiring passenger air bag or maybe any air bag. Also the minimum weight for a one time 179 deduction. Maybe also the weight for commercial class. Just a thought.

I bought a 2004 2500HD crew cab, short box in Sept. 04. I started out at about 13mpg. It has steadily dropped and is now consistently between 10.5 and 11.0. I do warm it up on cold mornings but I can't believe it would make that much of a difference.

I know several others with the same truck and they all claim 12-13mpg. GM says" that's just the way it is." If the check engine light isn't on there's nothing to be done about it. I'm very dissapointed and am ready to get rid of the truck. Since investigating I've discovered that 9MPG is not uncommon. The only modifications are a replacement K&N Filter and a tonneau cover.

ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS/ ADVISE?

I had a 2004 2500 I used for business and the mileage with the 6.0 was always between 12 and 13...never less, never more. Then I opted in December to trade it in on a dually with an 8.1/Ally...mileage is exactly the same. Both trucks were crew cabs, 4x4 with the only difference being the engine.

All of you could benefit from a Wester's Garage tune- I GUARANTEE IT.

Synder, warming it up like that (I do the same always) will KILL your DIC mpg avg. Look at your numbers before you start it and check it when you take it off, then see how long it takes to get it back up there. I hate sitting in drive-thrus... I'll watch it drop 1.5~3mpg avg.... But guys... they ain't economy cars !!!! Seriously, I'd bet you'd each pickup 2~3mpg with a tune, maybe more.

Also get a cooler t-stat, a cold air intake, and maybe a cat-back system and you'll see gains. And a bunch more power :wtf: !!

Thanks...I don't have a Driver Info. Center. I simply divide the miles traveled by the gallons pumped. I did all that stuff to my last silverado. It did make more power but did't really do anything to help the mileage. I'm not really interested in putting a cat-back system on htis truck. I'm happy with the power it makes. My thoughts are that I shouldn't have to spend $800.00 to get the same fuel mileage that everyone else seem to get from a stock truck.

Do you really feel you lose 1.5-3 Mpg just by warming it up on cold mornings? I never timed it but I'm thinking it idles 10-15 minutes 5 mornings a week. That's 50-75 minutes a week. I use to get 300 miles per tank, apprx. 23gal.( 13.04 mpg.) Now I get 240 miles to a tank, apprx. 23 gal (10.4mpg) 300-240=60miles, net loss.

60miles divided by 12mpg. ( mileage that I should be getting)=5 gallons of gas used each week idleing. 5 gallons divided by 62.5 minutes (Average/50&75)=.08 gallons per minute. That figures on the low side of things. Several people said they're getting 13+ mpg.

Does that sound right? I guess it could be right. Almost 5 gallons of gas to idle for 1 hour +/- seems like an awful lot to me. I was under no illusion that I would be getting Toyota Corolla gas mileage here. I understand the trade off. I guess I was hoping to find someone to say "I had the same problem, GM did ........ and it fixed things."

My commute is 17miles one way. It's stop & go on the way to work and all highway, 70-75mph on the way home. Incidentally I tach about 2600rpm @ 75mph. Does that sound right to you?

These engines don't need to be warmed up. I live at 7,200 elevation and I start my struck, wait about 20 seconds, then I drive off.

Try not idling your truck for a week and see what the mileage works out ot be. Don't forget, your truck is running rich at cold idle. At cold idle it takes a looooong time to get up to operating temp. Driving off is actually better for your vehicle, the engine warms up faster and wastes much less fuel. I find that with the great seat heaters, it's not as problem to hop in the cold truck and take off as long I wear gloves, that steering wheel can get awfully cold.

Just no lead foot accelerations until the temp gauge comes up.

doubt it because the 1500HD crew is the same GVW as my 2500 crew. both 8600... now my truck is exempt from displaying gas mileage but the 1500HD is not?
