DIY supercharger, need help

Recommended Posts

I have a powerdyne head unit from another project that I was thinking about selling, but then I thought hey why not put it on my '01 Z71 with a 5.3. All I have is the head unit, so I'll need to fabricate the mounting brackets which I can handle. But I'm not sure about the fuel management. How do supercharger kits handle the fuel management? Do you get upgraded injectors? Upgraded fuel pump? Or does the FMU simply build up more pressure in the fuel line somehow? Do the kits have anything to reprogram the ECU for spark advance or fuel trims, if so are there programmers I can buy to do the same thing? Sorry if this has been asked before, but the searches I did didn't help. I also checked with powerdyne and they have a kit, minus the head unit, for $2700. I know it would be really easy to just buy the kit, but I'm trying to save some money and have a little fun.

Purchase HPTuners and program it yourself, you will have alot of fun doing it.  Check out their website.

Thanks for the help. I checked out hptuners webiste, that tuner looks like it can do just about anything you need it to. A lot of good info & help on their news group as well. I did a search to see if you can get the software from somewhere else, but it doesn't look like you can. Does anyone know if you can get the tuner from anywhere else other than hptuners? I'm guessing not, but I just wanted to see if I could find it any cheaper than the hptuner website.

HP Tuners website is the only place to order it. But I looked at it this way. If I went with a custom tune, everytime I wanted to change something, it would cost me freight there and back. Some say $65 dollars would cover it. With HP Tuners you can change anything that the computer controls, plus if you don't like it you can instantly change it. To flash the computer only takes about 28 seconds, and you are ready to go again. Find a buddy of yours that has a GM truck or car that you can split the cost of the program. Because you get two vehicles not just one. The best part is that the program is not locked to the VIN#, which is handy to be able to tune multiple vehicles of the same year and type.

Ask around, you might find others that have this program that can show you theirs, once you see how it works you will be hooked. It is very cool to be able to tune your own vehicle. It is very impressive to tell people that you kicked their ass with changes you made yourself.
