How do you know what to ask for on a custom tune

Recommended Posts

I'm seriously considering pcmforless instead of a handheld programmer like hypertech or superchips due to the reports of better performance from a custom tune.

My question is, how do you know what to ask for?

I've been reading but can't find anything on the different options.

I know some guys adjust the torque mgmt. do you just do away with it all together?

how bout fuel octane....just let them know what you intend to burn in your truck?

Rev limiter....really worth adjusting if you don't plan on racing?

top mph.....just bump it up some?

shift points....how do you know what/where to change?

My main reason for doing this is the change in tire size to 315's, but while i'm at it i may as well get some performance. Problem is I have no idea what to ask for.

Thanks guys for helping out a newbie.

I ordered a Westers for two main reasons:

  • Correct tire size
  • See if I could get better MPG

I simply asked Westers to do whatever he could to get better MPG. I really like the tune. I think he adjusted torque management and firmed up the sifts.

I'd say talk to the those who will be doing your tune and help them understand what you want from your truck (power, towing, MPG, speed, racing, etc.). They should be able to give you a good idea of where to go next.
