sts turbo

Recommended Posts

What is everyones feelings on the sts turbo set up? I am trying to make the magical decision between a turbo and a blower. I really like the idea and design behind the sts turbo setup but is it realistic for every day driving? I live in minnesota where it can be 41 below zero (like monday morning) or 41 above (like yesterday morning.) Turbo= increased gas mileage, supercharger= decrease in mileage. But both still have comparable hp gains. Mileage is obviously not the deciding factor, but it seems like the turbo is a no brainer as far as install, hp....etc...

How do you figure "Turbo= increased gas mileage, supercharger= decrease in mileage."

From what I understand the magnacharger only uses 1/3hp to turn at highway speed while cruising. I think the sts is interesting, but I don't like the air filter placement. If I go FI, I think I would go with the magnacharger for the completeness of the kit and the CARB #.

From the research that I have done, most supercharger companies clearly state that your mileage will increase while towing, decrease with in town driving approx 1 mpg and probably stay the same on the highway. one of sts's clame to fame is that you will get increased gas mileage with thier turbo setup. in some case's 2-4 mpgs!

whats in the STS kit?  Do i need a new PCM and injectors?

The basic STS setup will work fine with your stock injectors, and Lyndon will do the tune for it as an upgrade.

I'm thinking of one of these too!!!

Would you prefer the STS system over a supercharger? if so why? I always heard that a s/c gave more power over a broader rpm range than a t/c hence you see more s/c's at a 1/4 mile track. Are these new turbo's that much better than the old ones?

Each STS Turbo System includes all the parts you need to install the turbo on your vehicle -

Garrett Turbo

TiAL Wastegate

K&N Air filter and PreCharger

Turbo Oiling System

HPC coated intake tubing

HPC coating exhaust tubing

Electrical harness

PCV System

Silicon connectors, clamps and fittings

Return oil cap

Full color, step-by-step instruction manual

1 year parts warranty

The installation manual includes full color photographs that walk you through each part of the installation. Custom programming is recommended to finish off each kit. Other upgrades are available for high boost levels.

The turbo systems have been very popular lately. I'm actually in the process of building a 500+ horsepower STS powered GTO. The car will have great driveability, good mileage and lay down some good numbers at the track. This can also be seen from the truck kits but with less horsepower (starts off with less).

I just wish they would come out soon with something for the 8.1L. I am looking at getting a good amount of cash back from taxes this year and would love to get one of these. It lookes like the STS is the simplest system to install, i would like to hear if someone can confirm that, but either way i am dying to get some more H/P's outta this 496.

I too investigated the STS. Seems like the logical choice except the placement of your intake. With the STS, you are now locating the intake (air filter) underneath the truck back near the exhaust!! For a 4X4, this is crazy! What about launching a boat? What about yesterday when I was in 2ft of snow screwing around, busting snowbanks? What about mudding around in the trails? I have a 4X4 and use it. I was a little disappointed to find out this will not work for somebody who does anythign besides driving on the street. Great concept though....might work for the Denali or the 2wd folks in the crowd.

Thanks for the input guys! I ordered a magnusson today it will be here friday, were going to install it on saturday so i'll let yah know on how it goes. The only thing is that i wish you could get a white faced boost gauge with the kit. I looked at the auto meter gauge kits and they are all way to high pressure 25-30! so the gauge might not evn move? what else are you guys putting in your truck for gauges? fuel press? oil press?
