Meguire's NXT Wax

I washed and waxed my 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 this weekend and used the new Meguire's NXT wax. It was one of the easiest wax jobs I have ever performed. Just apply the wax to the whole vehicle then remove with a dry soft towel. Easy on, easy off. Tahoe looks brand new.

Tip: If you get wax on your vinyl, cladding, etc and you need to get it off try this. Use a toothbrush and some Armor All. It will come right off and shine up your parts at the same time.

I went over to my friends house yesterday evening. On the way, I saw his wife walking the dog so I honked and waved. Talked to my friend for a few minutes and all he could do is rave about how good the Tahoe looked and that he had never seen it look so good (even when I had waxed it with Zaino). Anyway this morning he e-mailed me and said that his wife didn't know it was me that had honked. She told him some new black Tahoe has honked at her and she was worried. He told her it was me and she replied "Did he get a new Tahoe?"

So, this stuff really works. I can't remember the last time my Tahoe looked this nice. In my personal opinion, it looks better than when I waxed it with Zaino and it was easier. Now to see how long it lasts. I was disappointed in how quickly the Zaino wore off even with 4 coats applied.

Just thought I would share.

Gold Class here too, at least until it runs out.  Anybody got a method for removing wax residue from the flat black plastic that doesn't require leaving a coating of something on it?

I found this searching the web. This is where I found to use Armor All.

Try any of the following:

- Apply peanut butter as you would apply wax and remove.

- Apply silicone spray or Black Chrome, scrub, and wipe off

- Apply a vinyl dressing (like Armor-All or low-gloss Armor-All).

I don't know if peanut butter will leave a coating on them or not.

Good luck.

Another:

If you've gotten wax on plastic parts, that you just can't seem to get off; use peanut butter! By using All Natural peanut butter (must be all natural), the chemicals contained inside actually break down the wax, allowing easy removal!

Yet another:

Black cladding is prone to "fading". To restore the cladding to its black luster, hand rub Westley's Black Magic onto the cladding (quite heavy). Wait roughly 30 minutes, and start rubbing the excess off. Repeat the same for the mirrors and door handles. The end result should make your cladding as black as new!

From the Meguire's website:

The best way to remove wax from vinyl or rubber is to use Meguiar's #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner. #39 will emulsify and breakdown the dry wax residue. If you have a tough time locating #39, any all-purpose cleaner should also do the job. Agitating the cleaner by gently scrubbing the surface with a soft bristle brush, like a toothbrush, can help break up the wax

Once you have cleaned the vinyl and/or rubber surface, bring back the natural color and help protect it with an application of a vinyl/rubber conditioner and protectant like NXT Tech Protectant, Natural Shine, M-40 Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner, or Gold Class Trim Detailer.

Hope this helps.

I wish Chevy made there fender flares the same color as the truck for all colors. My last two trucks had the flares the same color as the truck(silver) No problem with the wax as it is just paint. My new truck is red with the black flares. It is a pain when waxing. I'm not about to go out and get new flares and have them painted. It looks great, but I'm not going to spend the $$$$$$

Have you considered pulling off your current flares, sanding them, and getting them painted to match?

I have found that a regular #2 pencil eraser works for removing the over-applied wax. I bought one of those big ones for my mud flaps because I don't like having to worry about where the wax flies. It also takes the wax off the rubber seals around the doors. Good luck

Thanks for the tips on removing the wax. I DO have black flares on the truck but haven't got wax on em (yet, lol). I got wax on the front license plate bracket on my wife's car though, and need to remove it soon. And since I have the black flares, black handles, black mirrors, etc. on the truck figured I may as well find out what works up front..
