On my 99 Z71 I want to get bigger tires without much lift (less than 3"). But I don't want to stuff the wheel wells. On Z71's what is a good size to go with just so they will stick out some, not too much taller.? 305s crossed my mind but that might be a little large with no lift. Maybe not though. By the way they will be BFG ATs.

I guess while I am at it, what is a good thing to do to get just a LITTLE bit of lift? Just a little 'breathing room'. Add-a-leafs? Blocks? Not a big fan of body lifts. I want to do it clean and safe, even if it means a little extra cash.

Thanks guys.

I've seen 305's without crankin the t-bars and they really fill the wells. I have 285's on my lifted 2wd which sits about a half inch higher than a Z71. you can check out the pics of the tire here:

kinda crappy pics, but may help.

If you want the track a little wider without increasing the tire height, think about switching wheels to aftermarket ones with less backspacing and keeping the same tires. with 4-1/2" backspacing, the edge of the tread of my 265's was aligned with the body lip above.

thanks for the help. and yes I had to edit my sig. i didn't really know as much as I thought back then (3months ago).

I like the look of the 285s. for some reason I always thought they were smaller than that. I heard 305s were wider but shorter than 285s. Is that true? From those pics though, that's about as wide as I'm looking for.

A guy at the place I got my grille guard at told me Ford keys wear out the ball joints after about 10K miles. Is that true? Maybe I'll just ask on a new post about FORD KEYS :D

the first number on tire size is width. I E.... 265's are 265mm wide. 285's are 285mm wide ect... . the next numer is aspect ratio or sidewall percentage of width. a 285/ 70 will be a little shorter than a 285/75 a the side wall height on a 70 series tire with a 285 mm tread with will be 199.5 mm high a 75 sieres in same width will be 213mm tall or just over 1/2 inch more roll out.

305's are a bit wider but really about the same height.  my 285's rub when i turn and backup simulaneously.  305's would rub more since they are wider.  If you cranked to t-bars up like an inch you could avoid the rubbing with the 285's

I have 305's on my truck and they don't rub. My T-Bars are cranked a little and I shackled the rear to make the truck sit level. I have Goodyear Wrangler AT/S...

Out of curiousity, did you have the 305's on before you cranked the t-bars? if so, did they rub then? I ask because i've seen them on a Z without cranked t-bars and I swear I don't know how the guy could turn!

I didn't get the 305's until after I had the t-bars cranked. But I will agree with you, in that I do think his tires would rub without the bars being cranked!
