KN FIPK Opinion needed

Recommended Posts

I have a 03 2500HD with the 8.1L . I was told that the K&N FIPK(part 57-3030-1) was a great mod to add to my truck. What are the opinions of this setup? Does anyone have one that can give me first hand thoughts? Pros or cons

If this is not my best opition what would be a better one?

Thanks for any help you can provide

I have the K&N FIPK on 2 different vehicles and I love it on both. It does make a noticeable difference. It did make a bigger difference on my 5.2L Grand Cherokee than it did on the 8.1L 04 Silverado, but it was a favorable improvement on both.

I just slapped the FIPK on my 6.0. (less than 1000 miles on it) Install was super easy. Performance seems up. But, I really do think my milage has gone down somewhat. Could be my driving style, I may be putting my foot in to it a little more now. Not sure.

But overall, I am real happy so far.. :fume:

I put the FIPK on my 2001 2500HD (6.0L) several months ago. Love it. I haven't checked mileage, but it does improve acceleration, and it makes the engine louder. The engine seems to be running easier. (Which, I guess it is with more airflow. :fume: )

I just ordered one for me to. Did you have to cut the fan shroud to make the air tube fit ?? Also can you hear the air flow when your foots in it ??

For yearsd we have raced w/ K&N products-- desert, mud and on snowmobiles. I used to be their biggest supporter but after smoking one motor on the sand buggy, we had second thoughts. Sure, there are horesepower gains to be had, but at the expense of ur motor? The K&N type filters allow more particcles into ur intake and this alone eventually adds up for a bad result. Many mechanics will tell you to simply stay with the paper element filter and be happy. Cheaper and better for ur motor. One fellow competitor was actually sponsored by K&N and, guess what? motor smoked after 400 miles of desert racing. Of courxse, K&N declined any responsiblity-- so the lesson is: trade a few ponies for shorter engine life, its ur call. P:ersonally, we have gone back to the OEM style filters and are very happy. We still run K&N filters on the sand rail, but its a cheap VW motor-- none for my beloived 8.1L.

Educate ur self, call and ask K&N abouit how the filter will affect engine life and make ur own decisions. good luck and see u on the trail/street.
