Recommended Posts

I know on my last truck I had the HPPIII and it went up to a size 37's..not sure what a 315 is equal to.

Cool...thanks guys.

Any suggestions on where to buy this unit?

i I PERSONALLY LIKE THE SUPERCHIP PROGRAMMER BETTER THAN HYPERTECH WE DYNO CKED BOTH ON A CHASIS DYNO.. THE HYPERTECH BOASTED MORE HP BUT IN REALLITY THE DYNO DIDNT LIE THE SUPERCHIP TUNER WON HANDS DOWN !!! BULLY DOG TECHNOLOGIES (MY HEROS FOR DIESEL PROGRAMERS, CHIPS & EXHAUSTS) HAS A NEW GAS TRUCK PROGRAMER OUT THEY SAY ONLY 8 HP @ TOP RPMS BUT ALMOST 30 IN THE MIDRANGE RPMS I'M GOING TO CK THAT ONE NEXT... GOOD LUCK... :D SKEY

There's all kind's. The largest I thought the HyperPing would do was 34" (a 315/75r16 is truely a 33.6" tire). My 1999 NBS HyperPing only went that high.

There are many programmers out there:

HyperPing http://www.hypertech.com

SPE ProFlash http://www.streetandperformanceelectronics.com

SuperChips http://www.superchips.com

Crane Power Tuner http://www.cranecams.com

DiabloSport/Granatelli Predator http://www.diablosport.com

I think that does it for the Hand helds. There are a few custom PCM companies and several Laptop Software programmers also.

For some reason SPE removed the Proflash from their site. The HyperPing is the easiest to use with minimal gains. The SPE would be next, yeilding great power gains and alomst as easy as the HyperPing. I know nothing about the SuperChips. The Predator would be similar to the SPE Proflash with the ability for a tad more power if necesary. The crane would be the most complex, but allowing for power gains so extreme, you could destroy the transmission. I would say the Crane is for those who want Hand Held ability and No Limit to tuning. The Crane is the most customizable and will grow with your upgrades/mods.

I take it that you don't care for the Hypertech unit???

I was a little harsh I guess. Over at FSC we always refer to it as HyperPing. HyperTech is VERY aggressive with Ignition Timing Advance. If you can buy good quality fuel the HyperTech could deliver superior HP Gains, but for some reason many of us can't. Just about everyone I have met with the Vortec 5300 Engine complains about excessive pinging when combined with the HyperTech PP3. HyperTech's competition gets the same or more gains by a larger reduction in Torque Management. Vortec 6000 owners don't "seem" to have the issue. I assume it is because the factory Ignition curve is so mild.

Man who knows. All the programmers have pros and cons. HyperTech Fans boys love HyperTech. Custom PCM Tune Guys love Nelson, Westers and PCMforLess. What is best for you is complicated. You are asking for simple plug in power with no headache, but you also want the most HP per $$$$. Close your eyes and make a choice, it will be the right choice, trust me.

if you want simple and good ease of use i would contact bully dog or superchip i don't have anything bad to say about hypertech just that on a chasis dyno using premium fuel the superchip unit plain made more ponies same truck everything, thats what i'm basing my 2 pennies on !!!! the bully dog thing i'm basing on experience with both ford & gm diesels they make clean h.p. & lots of it!!! egts were much lower than with other programers & hard chips !!!!! so i'm kinda thinkin they probly do it rite with the gas trucks also !!! good luck skey
