Crank noise in steering

Recommended Posts

so my new hd diesel was making this crank noise everytime I would make a sharp left turn...anyone out there has had the same problem? I was told it could be the crossmember that needs to be retorched? The thing is that it only makes thenoise when it wants to. Sounds like the noise is coming from the steering wheel shaft but its hard to say......any suggestions?

I have a 05 2500HD D/A w/ a similar problem. My front end makes noise about half way through a turn, but only in Reverse have I heard it. I thought at first my tires were rubbing since I have 285’s on it. But I checked wheel clearance and it is fine. My T-bars are cranked up, so I may have something to do w/ that. My 03 2500HD w/6.0 never had a problem w/ t-bars cranked up, so not sure. I do think it has something to do w/ the front suspension since I get no vibrations in the steering wheel. I will keep checking for wear marks, but I do know that this 05 is stiffer and higher then my 03 was.

yeah it sounds like it could be ur t-bars being cranked up all the way...try to lower it alil bit...maybe that will resolve ur problem..I took it to the dealership and they said they had to retorched the crossbar(not sure if I am saying this correct) but I dont have the paperwork with me but I remember reading something about retorched the crossbar or something like that..i've been driving it since and nothing yet..so hopefully that took care of it

on my 2003 i never had any problems..ever since i got this diesel 4x4 i've had a few problems already...I am thinking it is due to the 4x4 front suspension..not sure...but hopefully I will not have any more problems

Well I will cehck the truck over this weekend and Hopefully I will see something. This truck is only 3 weeks old.. So It will get the attention for now. I have install the AFE stage II kit and also the Juice w/ attitude from Kenned diesel. So for the next several week I check all my connections still, and drilling a hole for the probe (EGT probe.). I will let you know if I find anything. Since it is still under warranty and they (the dealer) cranked the t-bar for me. I will not worry about it that much. If you find out something let me know. I will do the same.

You may want to contact the dealer I know some trucks were having problems with the grease in the steering box. At slow speeds you can hear a clunk in the steering.
