TrueFlow intake systems

Recommended Posts

Whats up everybody. I was surfing the web and I was looking up intake systems for my truck. I already have an AirAid pipe w/a K&N cone filter attached. It's a 3.5" "L-shaped aluminum pipe"connected to the MAF sensor. I also use the factory "accordian flex pipe" connecting the MAF to the throttle body. I'm kinda having some thoughts if I should keep this system or go with another. My current intake is exposed to the heat of the engine and headers; this kit does not come w/a heat shield or "cold air box" The headers make a lot more excess heat! More importantly I'm finding some dust lining inside my intake tube; and I'm kind of hesitant to keep this intake system. I live in a rural ranch area outside of Phoenix and the current and steady rise of new housing developments are not keeping the the dust out as good as someone else would in the city. I find myself going through more cone filter oil charging/cleaning intervels than that average driver.

I'm asking you guys if you recommend the TrueFlow intake system for my 1997Tahoe. Its an oild foam filter, "smooth intake pipe", and uses the factory intake box.

Feel free to reply the pros, cons, and other intake recommendations you might have. Thank you all and enjoy the new year....THANX:)

I put a True Flow system on my 04 GMC, and didn't really notice any gain. I just took the True Flow tube off, and put  the stock one back on to see how my mileage does on my trio this weekend. I've done much reasearch on this subject, and have the Volant, True Flow, and several stock systems. There's much to be said for the factory system. You just need a better filter (K&N, or Green, or True Flow), and open up the bottom of the box. I drilled 2 inch holes in the front, and bottom of the box, and THAT made a difference. At the track, just take out the right headlight, and you got ram air! If you notice, all the big "tuner" cars, and trucks that are being built have the factory airbox.
