Leather power heated seats

Recommended Posts

I have the power leather seats but no heat or memoery setting, My ? is do the seats have the heating pads in them and they are just not wired up,? Is it possible to get the wiring and switches and make the heated option come to life. The drivers seat has a small black control box mounted underneath it with tons of wires going to the seat itself and a large plug going into it with only three wires there now but it has a 24 pin plug (looks like a 24 pin, but i didn't count them). I have tracked down the part numbers for the needed switches and wiring harness, but I need to know for sure if the seats have the heating pads in them before I go to the trouble of buying the stuff needed or ripping it out of a boneyard truck. I'm not really conserned with the memory settings but from what I gathered so far is that the heat and memory come together in the package.

I have seen those kits that add heating to the seats and that may be the way I have to go. I was told that the elements are put in the all the leather seats during manufacturing and that GM only installs the wiring and switches if that option is included in the trim package. Can anyone verify that?

I can verify that it's not true in my experience. We've repaired our fair share of leather seat covers. Never saw a heater element in one that didn't have heated seats.

what is the control box under the drivers seat for? currently it only has 3 wires going into it (12volt pos, 12volt neg. and one for the beat belt) but the connector has a 24 pin array (I'm guessing 24, I didn't count them)

Is that the memory module?

Hmmmm, that does sound like a memory module, but from what I know, you shouldn't have that if you have no memory or heated seats. You just have plain old 6-way power and nothing else?

I think these are the eight-way power

Yeah, "6-way" is just an old habit of mine. Posting a pic requires you place the photo on a website somewhere and then provide a link to it with IMG tag. But I believe ya, no photo is necessary. :smash:

I just went an looked at the schematics in our service information and it shows the switch wired directly to the motors. Here it is...

But our information has been known to be wrong before. Take a look at your option label and see what codes you have that start with the letter "A".

the codes listed that start with A are:

AG1

AG2

AJ1

AN3

AU0

AU3

A31

Hmmm, well they do show the various memory module schematics with AN3 seats, so perhaps you do have the memory module but just not all the other items that goes along with it to give you memory and heaters. Never really paid much attention to this, but I'll check it out when I get back to work on Monday.

There's still a gotcha in all this. Just because you have the module doesn't mean this would be an easy upgrade. The amount of wiring, supporting switches and programming would make this difficult at best.

Our body shop manager wanted to add power locks to his base Silverado. He got a complete harness and lock motors out of a wrecked truck, bought new door modules and a BCM. A week later and we still can't get the door lock switches to be seen. The locks work when the truck is put into or taken out of gear and the remotes work, but not the switches. I even called Techline and got a VCI calibration built for it, since our programming system thinks the truck doesn't have locks (which it didn't) and still no go.

So these things are not always simple and GM definitely doesn't put everything in and just not enable it if you don't have that option. Certain parts of it may be there, but that doesn't always make it easy to upgrade it.

Hmmm, interesting info.

I don't mind the challenge if I know it is possible. Most of my other upgrades to this truck have been a big challenge too. I gotta thank the members of this forum for help with some of them.

I'll be here if you find anything out, and thanks for your help

Anything is possible given enough time AND money. :smash: I hope I didn't give the impression I was going to have some revelation for you. I will look at a couple trucks when I get back on Monday, just to see what a truck with no memory/heat has under the seat, but that's not going to tell me what it would take to add those options.

As my example with the power locks shows, some things can be a real challenge. We tried everything and since it is the body shop manager's truck, time was not an issue and we have a parts department full of parts. Still, we were not able to get the system fully functional. I passed this problem by some pretty sharp GM techs on our GM sponsored Tech forum and no one could come up with an answer. Then again, most of us don't modify vehicles, we just fix 'em.
