BFG A/T's

I just picked up my 2004 2500HD CC 4X4 yesterday....love it so far.

 

Stripped off the pin stripes and that fugly body side moulding today....ordered my painted door handles and chrome mirrors as well as some new body side moulding.

 

I'll post some pics when I'm done.

 

Anywho....my next purchase is tires. I want to turn the torsion bars to level the truck out (approx 2") but am not interested in new shocks or spacer blocks.

With that said, I'm considering 295's or 305's on the stock 16" rim. In looking at the tire specs it states that the 295's circumference is actually taller than the 305 (due to the sidewall height...one is a 75, the other is a 70). My question is, in ya'lls opinion what will give a better look....the height of the 295 or the width of the 305?

 

BTW....I LOVE the look HVYCHEVY has achieved with his HD, but am not sure I wanna mod mine enuff to fit 315's.

I had 285's on my personal HD and it was close. We had a customer that insisted on 295's even though I tried to talk him out of it. The 295's wouldn't clear when turning no matter how much the bars were cranked and the caster/camber adjusted. The 285's were installed and cleared just fine. Remember to have the front end aligned after the ride height has been set. 295's will require a lift to clear.

Hi SilverCrew,

Congrats on your new HD!

You will find alot of good advice here @ gm-trucks as well as alot of different ways to do the same mod(s).

I'd follow the mfg's recommendation as to wheel vs tire size.

If you want some "meats", then mod for "meats".

If you want some 305's, then you are looking at perhaps a 3" body lift, trim the valance/airdam a little, and some wheels that are 8" wide (according to BFG).

you won't have to do anything to run 305's, or 285's for that matter.  plenty of guys are running both on stock wheels and stock suspensions with normal wear and handling characteristics.

 

 

 

 

I am looking too. I had 295's on my old 1500 and they were too skinny when compared to my previous 305's. For my current truck I am unsure as to whether to add the 285's or 305's. From my experience wider always looks BIGGER than taller tires, but I want these tires to TRUELY fit.

 

Will 305/70r16's All-Terrains TRUELY fit with only an airdam trim?? A friend has an HD with 305/75r16 Mud Tires and they rub BAD just turning into the driveway on his fender wells.

there have to be at least 20-30 guys on www.chevytruckworld.com that have 4x4, stock, 1500's, 1500HD's, or 2500HD's that are running either 285's or 305's. About half of those guys, including myself, chose to crank the torsion bars a little to get a more level stance. I have a '01 z71 and even before I adjusted my torsion bars I had zero rubbing with 285's, didn't even trim my valence.

It's weird, a 1500 Z71 can run 285s without scrubing, but a 2500HD can't.

I run the exact tires you are asking about 295 BFG AT's and don't have a rub at all. I trimmed the valance, leveled it with keys, and tied back my emergency brake cable. I trail ride my truck alot and have never had it rub in forward or reverse.

I've got 2004 HD/CC and have t-bars cranked with 285 Revo's.  They almost never rub.  Only time they do is when I crank the wheel all way to left and back out of my driveway and out in to street.  Aside from that, they are "scrub-free"

 

 

 

 

That is the answer I was looking for. 285/75 on factory rims will rub even with torsion bars cranked.
