any real hazzard switching to 265's?

Recommended Posts

I just got a new set of tires in that I ordered. my set of dunlop RV's are 255/85(almost completely bald after a year), and 255s are OK according to the tire manufacturers for our skinny 6.5 inch wide wheels.

well, the 255/85s sit quite a bit higher than the stock 245/75- over 2 inches. and now that i am looking at going back to stock, I am more than a little disappointed. I am thinking of shipping these tires back and gettign the 265/75 to at least only lose an inch.

so, with that long introduction...is there any real "danger" in putting 265s on the stock wheels? i don't mean rubbing or anything like that.

any prompt replies would be appreciated. I plan on mounting these tires tomorrow if I decide to keep them.

thanks in advance.

265's will fit great! I have had mine on for appoximately 10,000 miles and love them. I plan on going to 285's or 305's next time! I have several friends that have a second set of 285's on their stock Z71 wheels and have never had any issues. You will not be disappointed!

I got the 265's and they kick ass, make the truck look so much better also. Instead of thiose wimpy looking little donuts that came on it.

I am also considering the 265's now that my stock 245's are getting bad. For those of you with the 6.0 liter and 4:10 combination, did you notice a noticable drop in power when pulling, when you switched to the larger tire?

You shouldnt have a problems switching to 265's since your gear ratio is at 4:10, the 6.0 shouldnt have problems with it also, my buddy has a 04 HD with 265's and the Vortec 6.0 and it runs and pulls good, not big loads but pulls pretty good.
