Jet Chip???

Recommended Posts

Thinking about getting a Jet Performance chip, what do you guys think? Stage 1, will it give me anything for the money? Do you suggest something else for about the same money. Thanks!! Running 295/75/16 with the 4800 Vortec with a K&N on a 1500 Silverado. :ughdance::ughdance:

If I was considering a Plug In Chip like that then I would buy a Westers, Nelson or PCMforLess replacement PCM. Most bang for the buck. Jet is better than stock, but BARELY noticeable.

Rocco, just go and read the thread not far from here about the Westers group purchase. Dig around the board. Lots of info on this stuff. In the meantime, go here:

Also, a GOOGLE search and using the SEARCH engine will find all kinds of stuff for WESTERS. In the meantime, the previous message's URL is indeed valid. Might be getting hammered on pretty hard during the Christmas holidays:

  • 3 weeks later...

My buddy put one (Jet Per. stage 1) on his 2K-ZR2 Blazer, and to be honest, I dont think it did enough to warrant the 200$ (if I remember right) he spent on it. The intake and exaust were a much more noticable gain and money better spent IMO. Now the module is actually starting to give him starting problems (we think its the module anyway).

I have had a Jet Stage II in my 1995 truck for 9 years. Now, this is pre-Vortec, so it truly is a "chip" that is inserted into the computer under the dash. Back then it was $95. I had a Hypertech chip in at first, and saw no difference. The Jet chip did make some difference.

It raises the shift points, so you get higher in the RPM band before shifting, and it feels like more power (actually is), but the power is from the higher RPM, not the chip. It says it changes the advance, timing, and other things, but I don't know. I took it out for a week, and the only thing I noticed was earlier shifts. Same emissions test results with it in and out. The Stage II requires lower thermostat and high flow exhaust (which I have).

Since you have a more modern truck, I would certainly look at Westers. I have no experience with them, but from reading here, it seems to be favorable over just a generic chip.

I bought an 89/87 octane tune PCMforLess PCM for $250. and it works great, definately noticable with the shifting. Right now it is getting updated to have the Torque Management completely removed. I had it customized with the tow/haul button off, "Performance mode". Tow/haul button on brings back the drivetrain safety features, Torque Management and transmission line pressure almost back to stock levels. Bryan knows what he is talking about and can answer your questions. BTW PCMforLess is a site sponsor. Look for it on the left side.
