Winter Wax protection

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys (and Gals)

I live in the northeast and am looking for a wax that can get me through the winter salt and sand we get on our roads

.I have heard you shouldnt wax in the cold but

I have a heated garage so applying the wax wont be a problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I would recommend a Sealant over a wax. Waxes do NOT last as long as Sealants. I would recommend Autoglym Super resin Polish then add the Autoglym Extra Gloss protection.

If any bad swirl marks or minor scratches are present you may need a swirl mark remover polish like SFX-2.

The SFX2 can be applied by hand or PC. If done by hand, put a quarter size dab on a microfiber applicator and rub the polish into the paint until it almost disappears. Now wipe off remaining polish and see if there are any remaining paint defects. If the swirls are gone, then proceed to polish the entire vehicle the same way. If they are still present, re-polish like before until they are gone.

If applied with a PC, use a medium polishing pad like the Sonus Green pad, put a line across the pad and spread the polish on one panel of the vehicle(WITH PC OFF). Now with the polish spread around, set the PC to 3.5 and start working the polish. Once it starts to disappear crank the PC up to 4.5 and finish buffing. (There shouldn’t be much left to wipe off.

Apply the Autoglym SRP the same way but keep the speed on 3.5 the entire time. Also you don’t need to buff until it disappears, just be sure it has been worked over the entire panel.

To apply the Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection(EGP) by hand. Put a dime size dab on a microfiber applicator and “spread it” evenly over the entire panel.

Once that is done DO NOT WIPE OFF, move on to the rest of the vehicle and apply the EGP the same way. Once the entire vehicle has the EGP applied to it, wait at least ONE hour.

To apply the Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection by PC, put the buffing bonnet on the PC and pour a quarter size dab on the bonnet. Now set the PC to 2 and just spread the EGP evenly over the entire panel. Move on to the rest of the truck. Once the entire vehicle has the EGP applied to it, wait at least ONE hour. Then simply wipe off.

You may also add more layers of the EGP for even more protection(but wait 24 hours between applications for it to cure).

Hope this helps!

I use Mother's California Gold Car.... (not sure how to spell last part). I find it holds up well. Plus, it's a cleaner/wax so it removes some debris during the wax procedure. Then, about once a quarter I run the truck through a tunnel-type car was and have them put their sealer wax on it. The paint beads water all year long.

I have found car wash tunnels are not created equal........some seem to be better then others.......trial and error. Also, before I waxed the truck (just yesterday) I needed to go over the entire body, especially the lower sections with a good cleaner.......to remove small tar spots etc...

Would that be Mother's California Gold Carnuaba?

I really like look and feel of McGuires Carnuaba wax but the logevity is short. I still use it on my motorcycle since it is not in the sun all day, day afer day and gets waxed about every 3-4 washings.

I use McGuires Gold Class. It looks good, feels good, and last a fairly long time. Over the years I have tried many and found this to be the best for me.

One day I might break down and buy some Zaino. I hear nothing but rave reviews about it.
